Do you really use your high performance thrower, or do you just mess around with it?

Sometimes I wonder how folks on this forum actually use their lights. Some people have serious everyday uses for their high performance throwers, some just buy them for the thrill of owning such powerful lights and some are somewhere in the middle. I sometimes chuckle when I see photos on CPF where some guy is lighting up the ceiling of his bedroom with a major thrower or pointing it out the window at the next apartment house over and am left wondering if this proud flashlight owner actually has a real use for the thing.

I know there have been similar threads here on CPF of the How do you use your flashlight? variety but here Im interested specifically in how people use their throwers.

I started getting into this on another thread I was posting to and realized it was getting off topic so I decided to launch it as a new thread. Basically, I was talking about why I'm thinking of springing for a new dedicated and expensive thrower. I live on a 30 acre rural property out in the middle of nowhere where my house and deck have a commanding view of much of the landscape and a serious thrower can come in pretty handy quite often. I have lights that will do the trick, but of course, as a dedicated flashaholic, I want more!

So how and when do you use yours and how well do you think your particular torch does the job? Do you really use your thrower for its intended purpose and performance, or is it a fun toy to impress your friends with? .......or both?

Thread title changed, one word, for appropriateness.
