Hi guys, I've been looking for something like this for when i go fishing cos there's no point having a waterproof light that will simply sink to the bottom if dropped. This costs close to 11 pounds on amazon (excluding shipping) and I'm wondering if any of you kind souls here know of an alternative.

Thanks for looking.

Most people just use a regular lanyard around their wrist. That way if you drop it when you are using it the light will be attached to your wrist. That seems to be the easiest and by far the cheapest solution.

what is that, a floatation device? or just a really well padded neck lanyard? if its the latter, I use a SF neck lanyard around my neck.

Go to a boat shop and look at the floats that they sell for your keys.

Could be a good idea. That thing in the picture looks like a really padded camera strap, possibly for floatation. Bottom line is that for most situations, anything that will make your flashlight float will also make it hard to use. Some sort of leash that attaches to your belt might be better than a wrist lanyard so your light won't always be tied to your arm. Look around at other threads that talk about securing lights, you'll probably find some ideas.

i just ordered KeyBak super 48 retractable keychain to use with my next edc-flashlight.

its for occasions i cannot be sure that clip will hold the light on my pocket. i will attach a lanyard to light and clip that lanyard onto keybak, that way i can put the light bottom of my pocket and pull it out by lanyard and point it everywhere my arm reaches (guess 48" of cord +4" lanyard is enough reach :) and then let it just swing back to my waist if i drop it or something.

also i think if this is not viable solution id look for those keychains made of cork or plastic that float.

or those things designed to cellphones.. see thru and operational even when inside and they keep water out and float..

i used to make my own while going boating..depending what i had with me.
paracord and piece of wood or cork.
or duct tape and twobyfour..

also for keys i used big pain killer plastic containers with solid lids.. keys inside and lid closed.. and duct tape to ensure seal. white can is easy to see bobbing in waves. :)

i always found my carkeys etc even if they fell off the boat. hahah

yeah duct tape is macgyver must!

but retractable keychain is a new idea to me.. will start testing next week :) with lummi raw or fenix tk11

dont think that the weight really matters, a penny will still sink wont it??

think i will check out the sporting goods stores, Singapore doesnt really have stores that sell boats as we're a tiny tropical island and those that do own boats normally import them so there arent many (if any) retail ones.

Reason i asked about that particular Olympus product is cos it is meant for their SW range of waterproof point and shoot cameras which are submersible to either 10 or 30 feet (depending on model) and i own one of those (the 790SW) and its pretty hefty and if it can float the camera it wont have a problem floating my Jet III Pro ST (needless to say the Fenix E01s and LD01s wont be a problem at all).

Thanks for all the input! You've been a great help.

3 cheers for CPF!
