Drop In to replace regular bulb?

Moderators please move this if it is in the wrong forum.
I have a "Bright Light" Electrician's Flashlight. 2 D cell, heavy duty plastic, pretty much everything proof, built in loop to hang it with etc...
I have 3 of them. These are my rough and ready lights and they've been through a lot. They use a "KPR 102" standard bulb. I'd really like to upgrade to LED for them but I have no experience with a drop in.
Will the ones for Maglites work or do I need something else. I'm looking to get about the same throw and everything but a longer runtime using the 2 D Cells. These lights have been all over the world with me.
I never worry about them getting wet or damaged, but more light and longer runtime would be ideal.
Any ideas?

Thanks, I had just found that list while searching. Heat might be an issue in a plastic housing and I do want a brighter light and so far 50 lumens is what Terralux offers. I'll go through the list later since we have 10-12 inches of snow to deal with right now. I wanted to pick up something while I was out replacing a broken shovel at Home Depot. I might try a Mod on a Magled and see how that works. We don't have much at stores for drop ins around here. Just Magled's are all I've seen.

Thanks for the info. I bought a Magled and modified it to run in my light but was unimpressed with the increase over the stock bulb. So I will return it. Also it didn't want to stay in contact with the battery even after I really firmed it up with aluminum. I think heat will be an issue as well I think with 3 watts.
I'm returning it to try out a Nite-Ize and I am going to order the Dorcy on Monday. I also have a 6 volt latern that I'd like to replace the aging bulb in. The reflector can really throw but I want the brightest LED I can get for it and still run on 6 volts. That is my Do anything Ultra tough light, 26 years and still going strong! Be nicer with an LED upgrade. I think the Dorcy says it will handle 6 volts, might try it in that. :whistle:

They were on sale for $15 at Walmart but still not worth it. I'll try some others. Still having fun working on my toys and blew away all the guys at Home depot with my wifes Fenix L1DQ5. :grin2:
Too bad my Nitecore D10 is all wrapped up until Christmas. :sigh:
 
Save your 29 bucks and buy yourself a Husky 4watt 2D flashlight at HomeDepot just look for a well centered one. I love mine great for walking the dog, tailstands for ceiling bounce, wont roll, great i think. Of course I have other Leds but this one looks like the most durable all aluminum.

If your lantern is reverse polarity it won't work.

Great idea! but due to the ice storm everything flashlight related is sold out everywhere. I was at Home Dept tonight... twice! :candle:
But their supply of 4 watt Huskys is not in until after Christmas. I will be buying 2 of them. I just bought the Husky single AA light in the two pack. Home Depot is having a sale 2 Husky AA led lights for $2.97 includes the crappy non-alkaline batteries. I bought 4 for stocking stuffers. Forward clicky on/off that's it. It has a kinda purplish tint but ok for a stocking stuffer. I will but alkalines in them first.
Can't wait to buy the Husky 4 watt but might be 2 weeks or more. I got the little husky's and many leds' were off center and one tail cap failed as the switch was dead out of the package.
But those will be in addition to my Plastic lights, since they are non-conducting. Not cheap plastic but very durable.
 
I just had time to peruse the thread and the bulb looks like a good deal. :thumbsup:

Good luck with that ice storm, right now here in South Texas we are getting a bit of 37 degree cold wet weather of course nothing like you. But hey its cold compared to other days when we are scorching 102. I know im prepared mostly. I buy my stuff in the summer when we expect blackouts when everyone is using alot of juice to cool their homes. Next time you know what to buy there to prepare. A good cree AA battery is good for every occassion. I even bought me a cheap brinkman cree single AA at Walmart. Its got rubber coating on it looks tough good to use for mechanics. :popcorn:
