Ok I tried a search and kept getting a thousand results for the E1L and found very little on the E1E incandescent version......I may have one of these small lights coming my way and am curious as to opinions.

Is the newest style the round bezel or is it the same as the 3 sided KL1 and KL4.....also how is the factory lamp?....I assume it can not be used with rechargeables however I am closely watching for the Lumens Factory site to offer replacements that will take the 4.2 rechargeable cells.

I have only one small light by SF and it is the TW4 on a one cell Vital Gear body. Will the 5 watt head fit the E1E body that comes with the E1E? One last question are there any current offerings for better lamps for this light or any common improvements that I may want to look at?....Thanks for the help

Hi Robocop,

Your KL4 on the Vitalgear will fit on the E1e body! It's nice to run the KL4 on the E1e + 4.2v R123 for a little pocked rocket. I too am waiting for Lumens Factory to release their 3.7v E1e lamp! Surefire's e-series are very modular, slap on a KL1 or KL4 or even wait for Surefire's new KX-1. Many people think the MN01 that comes with the E1e is too dim to be of any real use, I think it puts out about as much light as a minimag on fresh batteries... my other recommendation would to just buy an E1L outdoorsman if the Surefire TIRO's beam doesn't bother you. That way you're buying a KL1+E1e Body+z57 clicky.

If you decide to run the MN01 lamp, be advised that I have run mine with several different brands of 3.0v R123's, which seem to work good.

I was really a little lost as to incandescents in a smaller form as I mostly deal with Luxeons.....I read on a search that many feel it is a waste to use a single cell 123 light with an incandescent lamp. I really do like the idea of having a lower power option in incandescent so this light may just fit a certain area for me.

I do very much like the idea of also using rechargeables however know nothing of the current draw of the new lamps supposed to be in production by LumensFactory. I am hoping the 800 mA cells I have on hand will work well

Penguin I do plan on using my TW4 head with this body from time to time and also just like the idea of having a spare smaller body. I will have the advantage of using a 5 watt in regulation with R123 cells and swapping out to incandescent on standard cells. I most likely will not purchase any other heads such as the KL1 as I already have plenty of small luxeons to choose from and would most likely never use the KL1.

If this light puts out about the same light as the 2-AA mag I could be happy with that as I am sure the actual beam quality would be much better on the E1E....I am looking forward to this light none the less.

The only small incandescent I have now is my old Streamlight Twin Task single 123 version....this has been a very usefull light for me by having both an incandescent lamp and 3 LEDs as well.....love that little light but when ran on incandescent mode it eats batteries pretty quick.

Robocop,

If you're looking for a lower power incandescent then the MN01 might be what you're looking for... From what I can remember, my two MN01's had a very narrow beam, so you should take that into account.

the MN01 stock lamp assembly in the E1E is brighter than a minimag incan, and it has an awesome form factor plus clickie and a clip. The beam is focused perfectly round and throws very far but not a lot of side spill. I think it's supposed to be as bright as a 2 D maglite. The bezel is round and the light looks and feels awesome, lots of fun in my experiece with it on the night shift. LEDs have gotten much brighter and more efficient but they're still LEDs. The incan E1E produces a beam which is about as white as most other surefire incans to my eyes, which is more white looking than the blue, purple and violet colors that still plague "white" LEDs.

I don't think you will go wrong with the E1e. I feel it is one of the most underrated lights out there. I've quickly grown very fond of them in the short period I've had mine, to the point I've already gotten another one. To me the E1e is more "useful" than some of the larger lights. How often do you need 65+ lumens for general, everyday tasks? The E1e gives plenty of light for most lighting tasks needed. Add to that the very small size, and 90 minutes runtime on one cell, and you've got a great all around light (IMO). I think you will be happy with your purchase.

I agree that the E1E is rugged, small package with an hour and a half runtime is just right for everyday tasks IMHO. And under dark adapted eyes it is plenty bright.

You can test this "night adapted" theory by turning the E1E on to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

The E1e is one of my favorite incans. So small with a gorgeous white beam. I agree with the others, it is very under rated. I had an E1L once. But when I got my E1e I gave the E1L to my wife. Get one! Its a great light if you do alot of traveling or walking at night. I carry mine in a generic Swiss Army Knife holster. With a full SC3 your set for a long weekend. If your going to use it more than 5-10 minutes at a time you might be better served with longer running LED light. But for casual use when you don't need something bright you really can't go wrong with a E1e.

The SF E1e is my favorite incandescent lights! I have 4 of them. I have a 5th wine colored one on it's way to me.

I keep a couple of my E1e's in jacket pockets, along with a spare battery. I really love these lights. I have one sitting on my desk, next to my computer, and another in a drawer, with several other SF's & other lights. Get one!!

The only SureFire lights I have experience with are the higher power rechargeables and for several years I was very happy with my 3.7 volt Commander as a duty light. I am pretty sure that it would be hard to go wrong with this smaller light and at 3 volts I do not feel as if it would be really all that dim anyway.....if it does indeed perform better than a AA Mag and has a better beam quality then I would be very happy with it.

I am curious as to the new lamps from LumensFactory and that is also a plus for this light is the better lamps to soon be available.....plus in my opinion it is simply jut a very good looking light in a cute little package. Once again the search function is not that easy for me to use when stringing words together.
I am trying to find output figures from some of our review sites and determine if this light is indeed close to the 2-D cell Mag. Has anyone here actually compared this light to an actual 2-d cell? This would really be an incredible light if in fact it was close to such a light in performance.

I haven't done a side by side comparison, but I would say that statement is true. The E1e puts out plenty of light. Definitely more than a AA minimag.

I will warn you. If you get one, you will probably end up with more.

Search for posts from cpf member oldgrandpajack. I would say he is one of the biggest proponents of the E1e here.

[email protected]()m gives the following lux and throw measurements:
Surefire E1E: Lux = 10.5. Throw = 25.22
Maglite Minimag: Lux = 5.8. THrow = 29.73
Maglite 2D: ?? anyone know?

DW51 on my first search I did see where oldgrandpajack had spoke highly of several of his E1E lights....he even said he EDCs 2 of them at all times. Oldgrandpa is a class act of a guy and a very respectable member so his opinions did mean a great deal to me.

Batman thanks for the figures and it does appear that the E1E puts out almost double the actual lumens than the minimag with almost the same throw. I also had trouble finding the actual numbers for the 2 d-cell however again with twice the output than the minimag the little E1E should be just right for casual whenever usage.

Hmm, guess I was wrong, Quickbeam's figures does put the E1e at double the overall output of a minimag.. guess I have to try an E1e out again... :) Quickbeam also says the L1P is about double the output of a E1e/MN01... is this actually the case?

You cannot go wrong with the E1E. I had six of them.

It stock incan beam seem to be just perfect for routine general use. Just imagine the beam brightness of 2 D without the bulkyness.

With a little modification to its tailcap and a KL1, they are the long runtime lights for my emergency / disasters kits. Squeezing 54~60 hours out of each CR123 with a LED beam brightness that I am comfortable.
In fact I am giving my family members this combination, KL1+E1E for their bug out bags.

If you want to know what a real Surefire pocket rocket look like, just put a KL4 on E1E.

firefly I very much agree with you on the pocket rocket as my single most usable light thus far has been my daily carry TW4.....It is ran on the single cell body with rechargeables and has saved my butt many times on duty. I was lucky enough to buy an original TW4 which was simply a hand picked KL4 with a lower voltage once sold by Tactical Warehouse I believe......I bought this light from fellow member Owen and have truly enjoyed every minute of carrying it....for the size I have seen nothing that could beat it thus far.

I have long been a fan of luxeons however recently have been trying out more of the incandescents and have really came to equally like both incans and luxeons. With the introduction of the new Lumens Factory lamps incans for me have suddenly became more interesting. Wolf Eyes also played a big part in me wanting more incandescents and I now carry several of their products on duty (Raider 9D is my primary)....(Sniper is a back up duty bag light)

What type of modifications to the tail cap are you speaking of?...I am not even sure as to what type tail cap this one will come with. I believe it is twist to lock out and momentary on by pushing. I do not know if it is a clicky or not and I am also not even sure as to what style this one is....it is a gift and I believe it was bought from LA Police Gear. have there been any changes lately to the E1E such as the body?...I assumed there were changes made as the other models have had a recent body makeover.
