Re: New EagleTac Model

I wonder how tough are these lights since there have been people who accidentally dropped their eagletac causing the lens to break... These would have been a very good choice specially the P100a2 if they were built like Fenix's.

Re: New EagleTac Model

Main difference seems to be smaller form factor - that is, of the LED. Also, luminous flux is slightly higher at 350ma, although I think it might be this LED that cannot be driven past 750ma. Correct me if I am in error.

I think you might be wrong on that one, but I also am not sure. I think the biggest thing is that the emission pattern is much wider not having hat big metal ring around the LED. This then helps get rid of the ring. Also being a smaller light source it is slightly easier to focus into a tight spot for far-throwing lights.

Correct me if I am in error.
The XP-E datasheet shows: R2 + R3 bins

Maximum drive current: 700 mA
determined by the thermal resistance between the LED junction and ambient. . .
to optimize lamp life and optical characteristics.

The XR-E: Q5 + R2 bins
Maximum drive current: up to 1000 mA

The package is 80% smaller footprint on the XP-E and the clear dome is smaller.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that number go up either. The XR-E was originally only rated for 700mA at first wasn't it? It was only after it proved itself over time that they raised that.

Re: New EagleTac Model

I see what Maxilux is saying but it may just be the picture. the coating looks like shiny type II annodizing like on the stuff from DX or something and the other pic of the 2 AA looks like a matte HA. I think it is probably just light reflection in a not so good pic?

XR-E and XP-E use the same 1mm^2 die. XR-C and XP-C use the smaller die. Are you mixing up the package and die size? Die means the actual LED chip.

Re: New EagleTac Model

I just got an email from Mike @ PTS Flashlights re: the new P100 series:
Mike@PTS Flashlights said:
The new P100 series were designed to be highly durable, efficient and reasonably priced for Law Enforcement and Military without any compromises. The new Cree XP-E allows these flashlights to throw very well for their size and yet have excellent side spill for close up work. These are entry level "high end" flashlights at a reasonable price, maybe to low. The P100 series are not redesigned P10s and should not compete with them.

This to me is good news. I like seeing totally new stuff.

You're right. It is the package that is smaller. I'll go back and change it.

Re: New EagleTac Model

kudos to eagletac for making the first small twist-2-stage with forward click, good knurling, and premium bin led. why has it taken so long to make a light like this?

Re: New EagleTac Model

Think I'll order one and use as a beater light. Too bad they have no plans for a 1aa model, it would have been a very nice EDC light. I need to get some more eneloops :twothumbs

Re: New EagleTac Model

Looks very promising. I've been waiting to get a P7 or MC-E light. This may be the one. If it's as well made and well-priced as the two EagleTacs I have now, it will be hard not to pull the trigger.
