I just upgraded the Energizer 1 watt 2xAA light with a SSC USV0H star. This light makes a good host, because it runs on regular alkaline or rechargeable AA cells, and it is easy to access the stock Luxeon star from the bezel.
This is pretty much a straight solder-in mod, except that I needed to shim the back of the star with copper desoldering braid in order to get the emitter at the right focus.
The modified light has the same total output as my Surefire E2L Cree, which makes it about 50 lumens.
