I bought a pack of energizer 2450 mah nimh rechargeable batts at target to replace some older 2500 mah energizer, "yes, i said 2500" I have the 15 min charger, first i charged the 2500's i had in my scanner, then i charged the 2450s to take with me when i went out to work lastnight, well i could not wait, actually i did not let the charger finish the 2450s, they were VERY hot, you could not hold them for more than 2 seconds, I put them in the freezer for a min or so to help cool em down. Whats up with this, the other batteries do not get that hot

I have the same charger and the batteries always get quite hot when they have been charging for a few minutes. I guess that's why it has that fan in there! I like it because it's microprocessor controlled. (all the dv/dt detection stuff!) It's really weird how it charges the batteries. It like pulse charges them...

But yeah, i have the 2500mah ones and they get really hot too. It would be better if you could tell it to charge it slowly if you had time to wait.

I dont understand why 2450s and 2500 would have a drastic temp diff between the two, mabey because i charged them both with about 10 min inbetween charges. Mabey the charger needed time to cool, I dont know

Every nimh I've ever owned gets hot when charging and that's with a normal, slow charge. If the outside is made of any kind of shiny, metallic foil, it can feel almost too hot to touch.

Nicads and lions get hot too but in my experience the nimhs get the hottest. I wouldn't worry about it but you are shortening their lifespan charging them that way.

If I have to use the Energizer 15-min, I only use the two center slots because the fan in the middle doesn't get much airflow to the first and fourth slots. Even then the batts get hot.

Oh wow. Sorry 2000xlt, but I'm going to be blunt here.

1) Energizer 2500 NiMH batteries are crap, and the 2450 are most likely no different.
2) The Energizer 15 minute charger is a destroyer of NiMH cells. It's not a good choice as the main charger for every day use. Batteries are just not meant to be charged that fast.
3) Batteries do get very hot in the 15 minute charger. Crap cells get much hotter than good cells.
4) Batteries do not get hot in good chargers. Just slightly warm at most.

Instead of buying those Energizer batteries why not buy some good quality low self-discharge cells like Eneloops, or the Kodak pre-charged cells at the bargain price in WalMart? Then replace the Energizer 15 minute charger with a good quality slower charger like the Duracell Mobile charger or Power Gauge charger available from Target. The LSD cells stay charged for months and do not need last minute charging before use.

Im into rc's so i use my charger to charge the cells that i have......I charged them at 1.5amps and the batts were hot as hell......and 1amp they were still getting hot, but i did find a charge that worked and that was at .5amps.......now they just get warm. The Duracell 2650's can be charged at 1amp and they just get warm. So now i charge the duracells 2650's and also the 2000lsd's at 1-1.5amps....and the energizers no matter what mah they are at .5amps.
