Fenix Digital L2D CE questions

I like the look and size of this light but I have a couple of questions for anyone who knows about them.

1. I see that this light has adjustable output levels. I like the idea of that but, is there a default setting for the amount of light the unit puts out?
Can I set it on the brightest setting and leave it or do I have to turn it on and then set the output level I desire? I want to be able to set it and then not have to worry about it.

2. I am going to use this light (or the one I eventually settle on) for my every day carry light. Will it stand up to every day carry?

So, is there anyone out there who owns one of these who can answer these questions for me?

The default levels are low and turbo mode, and the light will always turn on in one of these modes, depending on if the head is tightened or loosened.

It's a fine light to EDC, but it's best used with rechargable NiMH cells, as alkalines don't hold up well under high load. LSD (low self discharge) cells are recommended.

I suggest you search for the dozens of reviews on the light in the LED and Reviews section. Search titles only for "L2D" using the search function.

1. It defaults(leave the light off for more then 2 seconds(?)) on Low if you have the bezel loosened. It defaults on turbo if you have the bezel tightened. On-off-On with the Off section less then 2 seconds(?) and you change to the next mode.

2. If it's cousin, the P3D can take this punishment, the L2D should have no problem with normal EDC.

Very nice light, TN Mike - I think you will be happy with it. I have been carrying one for just under a year now (not every day, but often) and it has been reliable and functional. Some people seem to really put the Fenix lights down for quality - they seem pretty nice to me. Which version to get? Plain CE, Premium RB100 or Q5.... Have fun! The digital series lights from Fenix, have one of the best user interfaces I've seen.

There are 2 positions for the bezel of the light - tightened or loosened.

In a tightened state, a click will turn the light on to full power. If you cycle the power quickly by turning it off and on, or feathering the switch (within 2 seconds, I think), then the light will enter the strobe mode.

In its loosened state, the light will come on at the Low power setting. Cycling the power will then cycle through the modes as follows:
Low->Medium->High->SOS

The way I use these lights, is to ignore all modes other than Turbo and Low, and the user interface makes that really easy.

2. I am going to use this light (or the one I eventually settle on) for my every day carry light. Will it stand up to every day carry?

I have been carrying a Fenix P2D (which is the CR123 battery-eating variant of the L2D) for months now, and it has served me very well.

Unless you use your light A LOT, you should consider the P2D for every-day carry, because it's just as bright, but MUCH smaller. You could even buy a 2xAA body for it, for those times when you want to use the more common battery type.

I'll have to agree with what everybody else has said. I've had my L2D-CE for almost a year now and it's been an excellent light. Bright, rugged, and the user interface is almost perfect as far as I'm concerned. You can choose to always come on in low OR Turbo.

If you go with the L2D-CE, you might consider either of these rechargeable battery/combo setups:

However, I agree with meuge and think you might want to consider either the P2D or the L1D if you are going to be carrying your light in a pocket.

Some people have had issues with the head flashing while turning on; this seems to have been fixed recently. I got my dad one, and that flashed high when turned on in low mode, then settled down to low. I got myself on recently, and it doesn't flash.

1) The L1D CE Q5 is no different in build, runtimes, or function than the older P4 variety. Only the increased brightness is different. There are dozens of reviews on the L1D CE.
