Hello,

i currently own L2D Q5 and use it with 2xAA NiMHs.

Would it work with 2x rechargable LiIon 14500's? Would there be any advantage whatsoever?

Also, if I buy L1D body, will it work fine with L2D Q5 head? Will all modes be available with 1xAA primary, 1xAA NiMH, 1x rechargable 14500?

thank you :)

1. DON'T PUT 2 14500s IN YOUR L2D. It will go :poof:.
2. Yes, the L1D and L2D have the exact same head, so you can swap the bodies around. In fact, they have the same head as P2D, so you can put that body in to the calculation also.
3. L1D will work with all the cells mentioned, but you will only have 1 level of light (BRIGHT) if you use 14500.

Idem, i use my L2DQ5 head with a P3D body and a 17670. Same config also works with an old NiMh from a laptop, which has the same size than 17670 (but not a long runtime, the nimh is old and certainly quite over loader by the head)

where can i get AA size dummy cells then? :/
You might consider just getting an L1D body from Fenix-Store. Or of course you could also get a P2D body+tailcap/switch and use an RCR-123.

are you sure? i think i've read somewhere that it works fine with all modes..?
You might be confusing it with the P3D (as I did in a recent posting), which gives you all modes with two Li-ion cells. But I've got three L1D/L2D/P2D heads of various vintages, and all of them give you just the highest level and strobe when using a conventional Li-ion cell (14500 in the L1D body or RCR-123 in the P2D body). You get all modes if you use a LiFePO4 cell.

let me know were you saw that the L1DCE worlks on al modes with 14500

i have read pretty much every thread about the L1DCE and everybody has the same experience with it

with 14500 you only have one brightnesslevel TURBO

sure you can switch between modes but you can not tell anything is happening because al modes are equally bright.

the 14500 bypasses the regulation circuit and power the led directly
if the voltage is higher than 3.2 volts it will bypass the circuit

there are 3.2volt lifepo4 batteries which you can use but these are rather new and capacity is low. i was told you then have medium, high and turbo(low is the same as medium)

did not try it myself but ordered a lifepo4 to see what they are

hm yeah perhaps i'm mistaken..

FYI, I've just updated my Rebel, Cree, SSC Multi-Stage 1AA Review: RUNTIMES and BEAMSHOTS review to include 14500 results on Fenix L1D (on premium Q5 head). Here's the relevant graph:

Although I only ran Turbo, Med, and Lo so far, I think you'll see results are clear - outside of the regulated max on Turbo, light runs direct drive from max until lower output modes are reached (at which point it switches into regulated output). Note that you don't have long at this level, since battery is typically almost exhausted by then.

Cheers!

Selfbuilt

what do you mean with med an low levels

did you do a run on
Turbo(head tightened)
Med(on and 2 click)
low(on)

or is med and low the same as high

this would mean we have 2 levels with the L1DCE high and turbo

That's it. I didn't do Hi yet (3 clicks on loosened head), so not sure how it would turn out. I will get around to it when I have time (lightbox currently in use).

I should mention that Turbo (head tightened) is difficult to do with a protected 14500 in there - it's too long for the body. I had to use a copper ring spacer in the head for it to make contact.
