i bought one to mount in my truck. This thing is heavy, but cool. I don;t like the long recharge time, but most of my use is short bursts, so i think it will work out. use it a while then throw it back on the charger in the truck waiten on the next use.. I had let it charge a while, but just had to try it. Man is this thing bright! made my standard stinger look like a toy. I cant imagine what it will look like fully charged.. The beam is definitely funky but i like it. The tight focus really reached out and touched, and the wider focus was pretty good too, really lit up the area.. So far i am really impressed with this in stock form. Definitely brighter than i had anticipated.. So what are your alls thoughts on the magcharger?

later!!!! chris

I have 3 of them :D

I would recommend a Magcharger to anyone who is just getting into flashlights. It's a great bright light for the money. I'm always looking for a used one to tept me to boost me up to 4:devil:

Congrats on a great light for your vehicle. FYI don' worry about leaving it in the charger, it says to not leave it in for more than 30 days. If you use it here and there it should be fine.

The beam can be fixed with a cammed Medium Orange Peel (MOP) aluminium reflector, available on these forums. I think the MagCharger needs a slightly different one to a standard MagLite.

Hmmmm.... does the MC use a NIcad pack or NIMH.

Becuase I remember as a kid it was bad not to fully let Nicad chage up before using it. The batt, had memory or somthing.

Just checked, it is NiCad. Why do Maglite and Surefire (10X Dominator) insist on using NiCad cells? I'm surprised that they are still allowed to anyway due to the restrictions on using cadmium. NiMH would be a better choice in this day and age, possibly Li-ion, but these require more handling care.

one of my favourite light (that I don't own) is the MagCharger with WA1160 frosted + a stick of 5 5000mah 1/2 D batteries...

I have a question (a little bit OT..):
which light do you prefer:
MC, WA 1160 + mica shield (+standard bulb), nimh 5000 Battrypack, metal reflector(standard/MOP), standard lens,
or
MAG85 made from a mag3D with FM's reflector (MOP/VLOP), FM's battery adapter, glass lens, Kiu socket, elite 1700 batteries, WA 1185 (+ WA 1306)

?????

I thought they banned NiCd batterys way back here. I think the MagCharger are sold here. Hmm...have to check

I don't know about the environmental regulations, but NiCd cells are more tolerant to electrical abuse (high discharge rates, overdischarging, overcharging) than other types of rechargeable cells.

Almost all cordless power tools use NiCd cells because when do you stop using your cordless drill? When the chuck stops turning...

Regarding your concern about the lengthy charging time. You could get a smart NiCd / NiMH fast charger and solder it to the connection terminals on the stock charger base. This would be more suitable for the on-off usage characteristics. A good charger can charge a 4000mAh pack in less than three hours, and with intelligent cut-off features.

Very good idea! Althogh the MagCharger is a dinosaur it's still a great flashlight. I recently won one on ebay for $30.00 NIB. The sticks are cheap so if you think you are going to need it an extra charged battery can be handy.

Mine resides in my truck and has a simple "upgrade" with the WA01160 which I misted to produce that smooth beam after dialing in that "sweet-spot"!

Nice job Snapper! That's a great light for a new enthusiast. The WA 1160 bulb will blow you away. The longer you use it with the stock bulb the more impressed you'll be when you put the 1160 in there.....but then again why wait? :naughty:

Another thing to keep in mind if you're going to just simply swap the bulb, is to not "seat" the WA01160 all the way down, otherwise when on for some time it'll melt the plastic bi-pin holder.

Which charger does this?

Thanks

Most any decent r/c car charger will work wonders. Actually, you can get charge time down to less than an hour.

But, be warned, faster charge times equals higher voltages till the pack settles down. If used right after a fast charge you run a real risk of blowing a bulb.
