I am trying to figure out which batterys to use for my p7 mod on a c-sized maglite. Which battery is better the Li-Ion or NiMH. Im thinking of going with either of these 2 batteries. Please help me make my decision.

The Li-Ion

The NiMH

Which one will power the p7 brighter for longer?
I also need recommendations on what reflector to use for maximum throw.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

Hello Customlight,

Welcome to CPF.

The battery questions usually go in the electronics and batteries section of the forum. I will move this thread over there, and hopefully you can get some answers to your questions.

It true CPF fashion, get both, run a comparison, and report back what you think is better... :)

ordinarily speaking, the decision on what power source to run is made based on the voltage requirements of the design, so you might want to figure out what you are going to use to drive the P7 first, then look at what options are most efficient, then try to find out how realistic the AH ratings on those cells are, then calculate the watt hours of each cell type based on true capacity, then multiply that by the efficiency of the driver type needed to run a P7 from that voltage source, then you have an answer. :)

does that make any sense?

Personally I have not heard or seen much if any reporting on how well the KD li-ion C cells or the Accupower 6AH NIMH cells actually hold up..

For NIMH I must urge you go consider the LSD cells, yes they are only rated like 4500mAH instead of 6000mAH, but they will probably prove to be much more reliable in the long term, and have power available when you leave it sitting for a few weeks.
