I have not been here much for the past three years and am wondering what are the must have and or want lights for flashaholics these days?

Back in the day there was the Maxabeam, SureFire M6, Arc AAA, SureFire E2 and a few others.

The LX2 and U2 seem to be must haves. And even thoguh it's been replaced by the SSC P-4 version, the L4 Lux-V is a one of a kind light, and is on my list of "Must Haves".

I was going to suggest the U2. It's not necessarily a "wow" light, but when I actually get to use it I remember that it is a "Man, I love this light!"

The LX2 is a champ too.

This is interesting to see where it goes. I agree that the landscape has changed a lot since the days the OP was talking about.

:welcome: :p

Joking aside, if your budget allows it then you need something in Titanium! McGizmo's Haiku seems to have a real following and there is also Data's Spy 007, a really amazing light.

Surefire E-series lights are still well loved, but lights like the C2 are also quite popular. I'd recommend looking into a C2 (or C3) and trying out one of Nailbender's P60 compatible LED drop-ins. Go for a neutral tint (4000-5500K for colour temp) and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. A "classic" (C threads) Surefire host like the 6P, C2, etc. has so many upgrade options available these days.

In no particular order,
Quark mini
LiteFlux LF3XT
High CRI RA Twisty
Bitz (Al) no longer in production :mecry:
Any McGizmo (SunDrop )
Surefire L1 (modded)

I think everyone should have a 6P or similar P60 host. They never become out-dated with new emitter releases, and they are easy to lego and DIY mod too. At $13 (Lighthound) the Solarforce L2 hosts are a no-brainer.

You can just drop in whatever you want... warm tint, cold tint, flood, incan, IMR, RCR123, 18650... Heck with some lego stacking you can even run NiMH cells. The smaller Solarforce L2M will fit 1AA/14500.

Lets not forget Surefire Nitrolon and the streamlight polytac too.

If you want higher end... think Elzetta, Leuphold, SF-C2/M2 and Malkoff devices.

So you got a bunch of Eneloops and are feeling left out of the Surefire fun? Get a 9P or C2, they will fit 2AA NiMH cells with some paper rolled up. Solarforce makes low voltage drop ins for relatively little $$.

Gotta agree with Kramer, a P60 host seem like a must have.
Besides that, the current 'hot' items would be the Surefire LX2 and Quark Mini.
And a Stanley 35 watt for a HID. :)

Must have flashaholic lights:
-A good P60 Host for lego fun (Surefire C2's, Z2's, and Fivemega's stuffbored for 18650's are a great option). Like the others have said, you then have your choice of drop-in's. Malkoff, Nailbender, and Moddoo seem to get the most love around here for good reason.
-You really can't go wrong with any RA/HDS. Also pick up a quality Novatac for comparison.
-Everyone also needs a titanium custom from McGizmo and Mac.
-Pick up a D cell M@g to mod and go to town learning about all the configuration possibilities.

The brand landscape has changed greatly since that time. Now there are at least twice as many brands and many more choices for each category of light, so instead of naming a specific light I'll submit that every flashaholic must have one ROP. Any cell configuration you want, the point is having the experience of making a mediocre light into something crazy. It's a must for anyone who's seriously into flashlights.
