What happened to fladhlightreviews.com. it hasent been updated since 07 anyone know of a simalar site with updated info.

The amount of reviews, and the care with which he did them would be quite a job. I can see how one would get tired of it after a while.

I do wonder why nobody took over though, it was a good resource, even for those in the enthusiast community. I remember finding flashlightreviews.com before CPF, and it helped guide some of my early acquisitions.

I also found Quickbeam's site before I found CPF...in fact, I got here through a link on FR. I still find myself going back to that site for information, even though it's no longer updated. I'll always remember FR as the best though, I really do miss his great reviews!

Lately, I've relied on Light-reviews.com for similar style reviews on newer lights.

Selfbuilt does great reviews right HERE on CPF.

Check out LEDMuseum for reviews with a sense of humor.

Not to mention some of the "controversial" reviews - the CR2 Ion was one where everyone started to criticize the review, challenge the assumptions, etc... it got not exactly ugly but stuff like that would make you wonder why you continue to do it.

Just wanted to say, like other folks, quickbeam's reviews are what pointed me to CPF and what got me started down this path of madness.

Thanks, quickbeam!

Hey Quickbeam, how about letting Selfbuilt add/edit the site? He's using the equipment you designed, and it'd be nice to have all the data in one place..

I love that place, I find my self there quite regularly. It a great place to find out the stats on lesser talked about lights / cheaper ones I might be able to afford:twothumbs:twothumbs.

Hello everyone! It's been a long time. I just picked up a Streamlight TLE-1 C4 from OpticsPlanet.com and a EagleTac 2AA from PTS-Flashlights.com and I'm glad to see that the technology is still advancing right along!

I started doing reviews back when the first white LED flashlights really started coming out. They were not all that bright, but were efficient as all get-out compared to incandescents. I still have a Lightwave 3AA four-5mm LED light upstairs - one of my first. As the industry grew, so did FlashlightReviews.com. I like to think I was "there" when the biggest innovations were happening - white 5mm LEDs then Luxeons, then Cree... and when some of the biggest fraudulent claims were being made. It was fun to debunk those ridiculous runtimes and output claims, plus I was helping the community make informed decisions.

Then it seems that everything just started improving in little increments and steps; we no longer saw the leaps and bounds of the earlier innovations. There were gains in output and brightness, but the pioneering aspect of having LEDs in flashlights was pretty much gone. Regulation circuits were becoming common in the higher end lights. When 5mm LED lights started showing up at Wal-Mart they had obviously finally gone mainstream. When MagLite produced Luxeon based LED flashlights, the tipping point had been reached - LEDs were being recognized as the lights of the present, no longer the lights of the future. My interest was waning and I felt that my time in the reviewing arena needed to come to an end. It was time to "pass the torch" to the next generation of enthusiasts. I knew others would fill the gap, and so they have!

Until a box of thirty different lights "For Review" show up on your door step.

You got that right! Whew! What a rush job to try to get those processed! No fun at all.

I thought you retire from jobs ? reviewing flashlights would be heaven not work .

It was at first, but in the process of doing 500+ reviews (I think that's how many I did) it slowly but surely turns into a job... People have expectations that you'll review every light that comes along and the time commitment becomes rather hefty.

Not to mention some of the "controversial" reviews - the CR2 Ion was one where everyone started to criticize the review, challenge the assumptions, etc... it got not exactly ugly but stuff like that would make you wonder why you continue to do it.

Big time. People sure can get snippy. I never could exactly figure out what all the hoopla was about.

Have Mr. Selfbuilt get in touch with me via email if he wishes. I don't check it too often but I'll keep an eye out. Perhaps we can work something out.

I used to spend a lot of time on FLR long before I became a CPF member. In fact this is probably what got me started with the whole flashlight obsession. I found that the website is well laid out and easy to navigate, also the articles are well written and unbiased.

The market is now flooded with near identical Cree based lights that run on 18650 or cr123a batteries. It's certainly not a bad thing and admittedly some of these lights are very good value for money but to review every single one of them would clutter up the website and make it more difficult to navigate not to mention the time and effort required. If anyone takes over FLR, I think it's important to only review a handful of the best lights of this type and not just accept whatever people send you for review.

I'd love to see SelfBuilt contribute and continue the site. I also would like to see a RSS feed show up to make it easier on those of us who are obsessive about checking out new reviews.
