Back then they tried to optimize games as much as possible to have them run smoothly on the hardware of PCs & consoles of the time + they had to fit them onto Diskettes or CDs.
I feel nowadays with our more powerful hardware and physical mediums being essentially obsolete, many Studios just say 🤷‍♂️ to optimization to save time in order to meet deadlines.

Many modern games have no business running as poorly or taking up as much space on your hard drive as they do.

yeah it sucks crazy these 2 games would take like 580 fulls cds lol
