Gerber Infinity??

I did some searching and found the new style Gerber has not had much discussion. I have one that I modded years back however could not find much info. on any changes that may have been made to the newer stock.

I just found a few green body versions that remind me of the original Ultra-G and am thinking of buying a few just to have in my collection. I am curious if anyone has bought a newer one lately and if so have they moved up to better LEDs such as the CS version. The one I bought was right when Gerber took over and it was very weak in performance....hoping they may have improved. Thanks for any input on this.

When I contacted Gerber in November 2008 regarding the LED in the GIU, I was told at the time that they were using Nichia CS LEDs in it.

In the responses to my emails to Gerber right after they took over the CMG line they told me that the Infinity would no longer be produced. I'm pretty sure that they've made good on that claim. There are no new Infinities... Gerber never produced an Infinity. The CMG Infinity was a GREAT light for those with a need for it. I have a fistfull of the old CMG Infinities; probably enough to last me the rest of my life. I've got them in green, blue/green, amber, blue and in multiples of the ones I really like. Don't have any white Infinities though, but I do have a white GMG Infinity Ultra.

Gerber did do a total re-design of the CMG Infinity Ultra and probably still manufactures that model but an Infinity Ultra is not an Infinity. My own opinions on the new design aside, with the advances in LED lights in the last few years it is very unlikely that Gerber's newish Infinity Ultra rehash will ever achieve anywhere near the kind of monolithic acceptance that the GMG Infinities and Infinity Ultras did. Too little, too late. YMMV.

Sub Umbra I also have several of the original Ultra-G models bought from County Comm several years back. I agree this is a classic design and will never be matched by the new version of Gerbers design.

I purchased the new Gerber design out of curiousity mostly and remember being very dissapointed to say the least. It was no where close to the original and the LED was horrible. I was hoping maybe Gerber had at least improved the LED to the CS version by now. I just realized they offer the redesigned version in the military green color and I wanted to try it out. If the LED is still the same old version I will never bother with it.

Thanks for the input and if nothing else I may try one to see if anything has changed. In the very least I will have another host to mod if it does not impress me as a better version.

Wow, the Government-G slipped my mind. I'm glad I bought a few of those when I did. County Comm released a few a couple months ago for $30 each. I also actually have a Sonic-G. A few were made for the FBI and I think some MIL groups got some, too. I love the old CMGs. Sigh.
