Some of you might remember a few years ago, I got engaged in NYC. There's a thread in the Cafe somewhere, where I was asking for tips and suggestions on how to pop the question. You guys came through big-time, and the proposal was a huge-success. The relationship however, wasn't. We got engaged in April of 2006, and by October of the same year, we realized that it wasn't meant to be and went our separate ways.
Since then I've met someone else... she's absolutely amazing, in every possible way. We're a perfect match, and she's without a doubt the love of my life. It makes me really believe the old saying "Everything Happens For A Reason" because if I had done anything differently in my life up to that point, who knows if I'd be with my one true love right now!
We recently got engaged, and decided to have a short engagement so that we can hurry up and start the rest of our lives together! August 16th is the date. As is tradition, bride and groom often exchange gifts with each other on or around the wedding day... I've been thinking about what to give her, and apparently she's been thinking about what to give me as well! I know it's early, but she couldn't hold out any longer, caved in, and yesterday she gave me my wedding gift! What is it you might ask? A FREAKING LUNASOL 27!!!!!!
So how'd she do it??? Well I've always lusted for a Ti McGizmo light... she knows, because she's the one I blab to when I'm "dreaming" about such things. So one day she came onto CPF and created an account. She got Don's (McGizmo's) contact info and sent him an e-mail introducing herself and she told him of our wedding plans... she mentioned to him that she'd love more than anything in the world to surprise me with a McGizmo original! He wrote back and asked what kind of light I was interested in, and she wasn't sure... so she "played detective" one evening and asked me some subtle questions about it. With her newly acquired information, she wrote Don back... and he built me a LunaSol 27 out of an empty body that he had been saving for a rainy day. He even included a hand written note congratulating me on tying the knot!!
She gave it to me last night, and let me tell you... my jaw is still on the floor!!!!! For two reasons. 1.) Because she was thoughtful enough to go through all of that, for me! I'm proud to be taking this one off the market gents... I know when I've got a keeper! 2.) This light is way more spectacular in person than I ever imagined in looking at pictures on CPF.
I've never had the pleasure of owning a Ti McGizmo custom... (my experience is limited to random Alephs and HD45s from the Shoppe) and this is without a doubt my new favorite light. I've heard the term "functional art" thrown around here quite a bit, and now I know why... it is the perfect phrase for the light. It is beautifully crafted, but that's not even the part that makes me all giddy inside... the low beam is a "dream flood." I mean, it is absolutely perfect for close-up work. I don't think I can ever go back to having a huge, bright hot-spot in the middle of whatever it is I'm doing anymore. But the high beam has enough throw to light up an object quite a distance away! It doesn't get any better than this.
I'm so lucky/fortunate. You have no idea. Thanks again to my wonderful fiancee, and to definitely thanks to Don!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
