I'm looking to get one of these (incan version), or even possibly a light that seems exactly like the Peli made by Hubbell Lite that's been sitting at my local pet store for years wanting me to buy it. Can I mod one of these with a cut SMJ and drive it with 2aaa? I'm hoping for a nice floody beam like the River Rock 2aaa. All input is greatly appreciated.

Underwater Kinetics makes a similar light I think and you can go to Kmart and buy a plastic keychain LED light that has nearly an identical head with an LED in it, swap it out but you have to turn the batteries upside down as the polarity is reversed. It is not an smjled but does pretty well. I have a UK2AAA eled and an incan version of the side by side that I swapped the led from the keychain light out of works fine off 2AAA lithium batteries.

I need to correct myself.... the lamp module wont fit a pelican at all.. but will fit the UK lights.... sorry for the confusion as I have both types and at times I get them mixed up talking about them. My advice is to try and remove the bulb from the incan module and put an LED in there. I threw away my bulb modules on my lights I wished I had kept them but that was 5 years before 5mm white LEDs were existing back in the mid 90s.

That's ok, I'm kind of feeling a little more hands on, but I might be considering another host for more room, but I still want a 2aaa, twist head and Lexan or whatever other material of that sort. I'm right now looking at the Princeton Tec Amp 1.0 which looks to have a bigger module and I may be able to figure out a way to use the SMJ 2AA Minimag module.

I have two pelican mightylights without the reflector/bulb assemblies in my collection one has a magnet on the rear end.

yes it was an earlier design... at one time all the 2AAA pelican mitylights came with a magnet built into the end of it then later then stopped putting them on them probably to protect floppy discs. I had a black one but threw it away when the clip broke and the bulb burned out. It costs almost as much for a new bulb than I paid for the light itself. I have considered modding one for LED for awhile but IMO unless I can put at least a 0.5 watt LED in it I wont bother.

I don't really have good soldering skills or a good iron for that matter, otherwise I'd try a Rebel. Can the bulb be pulled out of the module or will I have to either take it apart or break the bulb?

I am not sure as I no longer have one to try. I pulled the bulb out of a Underwater Kinetics module though. Anything over a 0.5w led tends to need more voltage and better heatsinking than a light like that can provide easily.

Holy thread resurrection!! I have a Mitylite that's about 5 years old with the xenon bulb/reflector assy and would like a led drop in for if possible. I have emailed Pelican 3 times with no response. Has any one ever found something that will work? Good durable waterproof light but the output and beam sucks.
