Hey Everyone,

My PD has been working perfectly for the past few weeks, but today it has started to malfunction. :awman: I left it on my desk and when I returned an hour later, it was on the low setting. Weird, I thought.

I went to unscrew it further to turn the low off and the low kept on until the O-ring was showing and it was barely screwed onto any threads.

The current function is that it will stay on low as soon as I start screwing the head on. The light goes off when I reach the final 1/2 turn before the head is screwed all the way down (which normally does low then high setting). If I back it off a bit, while the light is still in the abnormally off section, the PD works and I can get low/high by pressing. Backing off more, when the low starts on, pressing the piston actually turns off the low!

I've removed all the lube, thinking perhaps that the lube was making a conductive path somehow, but still get the same function. I've also changed batteries and get the same effect. Nothing looks out of the normal on the converter board, and the wire loop for the low setting is still slightly above the metal ring.

:help::help:

I suppose you cleaned it thoroughly?

How does it work with another body? Or another head with that body?

I guess we'll have to wait until someone who knows shows up ...

Look in the threaded area of the sleeve and see if there is a wire burr that has peeled off the threads perhaps. There might be a very skinny Ti fiber that is bridging the ground between the sleeve and killroy.

You can take the piston out of the sleeve and with battery in piston, bring the battery in contact with the anode bead and then the piston lip to killroy for low and then in contact with the contact ring itself for high.

You can always send the light back if this continues to be a problem without cause to be found.

I have the same issue with a LuxIII PD..

I found it on my desk on for the third time last night. I cleaned the piston with a rag, relubed with Nyogel and it still did it.

I assumend the piston is just stuck after acitvation keeping it in low mode..Is there something other than Nyogel I hsould use?

Thanks!!

P.S Didn't mean to jump the thread but this was right on point with what I as going to open.

I personally prefer NOTHING as in no lube at all, to Nyogel. I find it gets thick and sticky over time. There is unfortunately a fine line between a softer spring for ease of activation and stiction that impedes the piston from returning to "home". I prefer the krytox lube over all others I have tried but there are other options as well and many threads discussing lubes here on the forum.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I've been searching the threads for any burrs, but can't find any. I also tried rubbing the threads with a rag vigorously trying to dislodge any, but still no good. I've also tried rubbing with my finger and don't feel any rough/sharp spots.

Testing the 2 stage operation works with just using the piston. I assume it is normal operation to only get to high mode while first touching the kilroy? I.e. you cannot get instant high by just touching the contact ring? But I can get low touching the killroy with the piston lip, then high pressing a bit more to touch the contact ring.

It's very weird because I can push the piston in so it is on high and screw the head down and as soon as I reach the end of the threads, the light goes out. I know it's not a problem with the piston touching the head because the piston cannot be depressed.

I may have to send the light back, Don  I'm not sure what else to do.

Ok some new observations.

It seems that when the light is on low when screwing the head down and it normally shouldn't be, the converter board has a high frequency buzz. The led isn't on full low, rather the die of the led has light but not enough that you can't stare at it (much lower than low)

Edit:

I've also noticed the light will get hot when screwed down, but the LED not running. I couldn't figure out if it was the battery or what, but I just unscrewed the head and touched the contact spring/anode bead and wowzers it was very hot. Perhaps it is an electronic problem?

I'm giving up...I'll just send it back so the master can fix it. Could you please PM me your address, Don?

Cryhavok,
It sounds like a short somewhere and I would like to take a look at it. I don't do PM's but if you will e-mail me I will respond with mailing address. Sorry about this!! :(

Thank You Don!

I'll give it a try when i get home. :)

Do you use Kryton on Surefires too?
