First of all let me apologize for this being my first post and getting right to the point.
I am not a LED enthusiast and only stumbled onto this site by accident researching LED lights for marine use.
I am looking for someone who is interested in Modding up a custom underwater LED set-up for my boat.
Here is what I had in mind. A 3" - 4" disk with white, green and blue LED's.
I am a machinist and I will machine a custom base for the disk. It will be made of Beryllium Copper and will be raised off the mounting surface ( Fiberglass Hull ) by about 1/4" to allow water to cool the back of the base.
I know absolutely nothing about LED's, if I did, I would attempt the project my self.
The plan is to have Two of these lights mounted on the transom of my boat. I want them SUPER Bright and with a 4 way switching capability to select each color or have all LED's on the disk illuminated at the same time.
Heat should not be an issue as the entire thing will be submerged while in operation.
This will be a "Flood light" not a spot light type. Basically, I want to illuminate as much of the water as I can and penetrate the water as far as I can. Needs to be a very bright LED with a Wide beam angle.
Yes I know this is nothing new and there are manufacturers who sell similar LED's systems.
But because they are for "Marine" use, they are overpriced. There is a guy I know who makes them in a "Bar" shape and sells them for around $150. But they are on a plastic base and not as bright as some other LED's I have seen.
I don't know what would be the cost of material for LED's of this type. That's why I am here asking you guys. It may not be feasible for me from a cost standpoint but I won't know unless I ask, right?
I want this set-up to light up the water like no other on earth!
If there is anyone here who is interested or can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks
