HID Ballasts

I'm starting to piece together a HID setup for either a Magcharger or a 2D Mag host. I've found a good source for bulbs but am looking for a ballast that can fit inside a Magtube, run a 35W bulb and run on 12V or less.

You have only two choices of ballasts. Both Welch Allyn. Their new prototype 14 Watt and the standard 10 Watt round ballasts. However, there are two other issues with what you want to do. First, neither ballast will run a 35 Watt bulb. You're stuck with a max of 14 Watts. Second, and IIRC, the mag body will need to be bored to accept either ballast. The best you can do is the 14 Watt setup. Chances are, you may need to "true" the prototype 14 Watt ballast as some have had to do. Sorry to be the bearer of not so great news.

There's lots of threads on Mac's famous Mag HID builds and others who have done them. Do a search for some good reading.

It is pretty small in size... course it says it runs off of 120 VAC so I don't know if you could modify it to run on DC or something... but at 20W output it looks like a possibility for a flashlight?
