Just got from the Hound a WF-500 and Lumens Factory HO-R5. All I can say is "WOW!" This is the brightest light I have (other than a millon CP spotlight). Outdoor beamshots to follow.

On 2 x AW 18650 @ 3.83 volts, distance to curtain is 25 feet. Sony DSC-P73 on manual exposure at 1/20 shutter speed.

HO-R5: it's brighter than the stock UF and much whiter.

Stock Ultrafire bulb- still pretty good

Surefire 6P/P60 with relatively fresh SF 123s at 3.05 volts

Lighthound P4 Cree in the same 6P body

LF HO-9 on 2 x AW 17500 @ 4.15 volts in a 6P + Detonator extension.

Great pics!

I'm just waiting for my 630lumen HO-R5 to arrive so I can compare relative brightness against the 700lumen EO-13 & 450lumen EO-M3T.

Very nice beamshots! That HO-R5 sure is impressive....much nicer beam than the original bulb

USM0083, do you have the lamp assembly screwed all the way in with the o-ring removed, or did you just install it as it came? Someone else had a problem with it not seating properly unless the o-ring was removed. Mark said you could remove it to allow it to screw in further, but that the o-ring was there for vibration dampening.

I screwed it in fairly tightly with the o-ring in place. Without the o-ring, the beam became quite a bit more floody.

Hi USM0083,

Was the stock UF lamp brand new, or did it have a few hours on it?

I noticed with my WF-500 that the lamp output dropped significantly (to approx 70%) after a few hours use, when I put an unused replacement UF lamp in, the output jumped back up again.

Maybe the LF lamp will have the same issue?

It was new. I've only got about an hour on the LF bulb. When I get to about 5 hours I'll take some more pics to do a comparison.

robm,

We are also aware that the UF lamp's output drops significantly after a short period of use. This is mainly because the lamp blackens very quickly due to the short life of the lamp.

The manufacturer of the lamp cannot really improve the quality of the lamp because the machines that they are currently using are not capable of making xenon lamps that can produce 400+ Lumens with reasonable life. They are basically just pushing the lamp to 500 Lumens, which in turn created a lamp with a 5 hour lifespan and very poor light maintainence.

You are free to test our lamp and see if the same will happen, I am very confident that it will out perform the UF lamp in every aspect.

Cheers.

Mark

Thanks for the response Mark :twothumbs - I just wondered if some of the difference in output was due to the difference in ages of the lamps.

I also have no doubt that the LF lamp is superior to the UF original - but I already have a small stockpile of lamps and assemblies purchased recently.

Will there be a big difference with the G&P Scorpion r500 also?, Im about to order the bulb but want to make sure it will be an improvement. Is the G&P scorpion R500 12 volts? thanks guys

Can this lamp throw in the same way as the led throwers (mrv, rapidfire, etc)?

Thanks!

The only LED thrower that I have to compare with is a Tiablo A8S (Q2?), and the HO-R5 completey blows it away. The hotspot is much bigger and much brighter. Outdoors, the white LED does not render the colors and details very well at 100 yards, while the nice warm (3350 K) beam of the HO-R5 brings out details really well. It's not really a fair comparison since the HO-R5 is 630 emitter lumens, versus 210 emitter lumens of the A8S. A Q5 WC LED like a A9 or MRV would have a more output and better color, but is still blow away my the sheer output the HO-R5.

Thanks!
Thats what I need to order a WF-500

I'm glad I have mine. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with it. I use 18500's in mine and I've been since last august on the same bulb. It is a very reliable light, to say the least.
