Step 1: Buy some of these colored filters from ebay.
They are cheap, and bad. The lenses on mine were scratched all over and very low quality.
On the other hand, what would you expect for $10 shipped for a set of 4?
Search ebay for "surefire filters", sets of 4 for about that price are easy to find.

Step 2: Pop the lens out, which needs no more than a little thumb pressure, and you have yourself a cheap and easy rubber head protector for Surefire 6/9/C/G etc. It's not pretty, but it should make a big difference if you drop it and it hits bezel down, and makes a beater light capable of taking more of a beating.

Now all I need is something similar for the other end, something to wrap around most of the tailcap and protrude just a little further than the switch.

I googled that minimag anti roll, it looks just right, but is it plastic or rubber?

It's a really hard rubber. Kind of like the grip ring on a C2.
