hi all...

I would like some input on making a Spanner Rench...(possible tips and what to watch for)

Now before moving further I belive I have gotten the S.W. idea correctly...

It is just a flat piece of material that fits into cutout of the part to be unscrewed/screwed.
In our case I want to remove the Surefire 6P beZel ring (fit it in two opposite slots and turn)

So what material do I use, do i chamfer anything, do I angle the sides, etc etc????

TNX, Kostas

You could Google "pin spanner" and see how some commercial versions look. They are very common automotive and bicycling tools. Several adjustable pin spanners are available. Perhaps an alternative approach is to make just the pins, which would fit the SF bezel ring.

I'd just drill holes for two pins in a small bar of any metal (or a larger block of hardwood) and tap in two steel pins. Remove all burrs from the two pins.

Occasionally I have used two steel pins held in a vise which can work depending on the device geometry. I have also used a couple pin punches held in same.

guys thaks for the input....

IAcually i was not refering to that type of wrench (with pins). I was talking about a flat piece of material that fits into cutouts to a flashlihts head (what i have seen worked the same for rifle scope objective focusing)

On the other hand it seems that a locking washer wrench that is angled 90degs, has pins, and points open when the grip is pressed is a good alernative (and I have one)

It is just not compact for a field mentainance kit...
