Phase 1 - Discovered this site, bought cheap LEDs flashlights from DX and thought that they were the best things in the world for $12 each

Phase 2 - started buying a couple of Surefires, Novatacs and Jetbeams, realized that Romisens just not cutting it. Spent hours on reading Litefluxs and Novatacs user manuals to figure out how to make them work. Dazzled by the latest technologies and UIs. Became kind of a collector rather than a user.

Phase 3 - realized that having 45 flashlights but only regularly using 3 of them is just silly. Thought about what type of flashlights that I really like and want. Trying to sell off most of my collection towards something else. Trying VERY VERY hard not to buy another new flashlight but keeps thinking to myself, if only the SR90 was only $200.

What's phase 4?

Phase 4.

Realizing that having 3 flashlights isn't enough to satisfy a connisoire such as yourself. Using the money from flashlight you sold to buy others, that look remarkably similar to the ones you had before.

Phase 4: realizing and accepting that the life as a flashoholic isn't just to really use the flashlights, but having fun with them. And the more flashlights- the more fun...

Are you in Phase 4 right now? :)

I think my Phase 4 happened within Phase 3.

I went through phase I before I even got to CPF. Had a few mini-mags, and some nite-ize drop-ins. Then i got a a Nuwai 1/2 watt, and a Princeton tec Blast! I though I was top dog...

Then I realized there was better... I looked around the Surefire display at a Cabela's, but couldn't justify spending 120+$ on a flashlight (that's insane, I thought!).

So I think I'm a mix of Stages II and III. I have a few lgiths that i use, and a few I want to keep, but can't quite4 see the need for the more collectables... They aren't users... And I hate to spend money on things I don't use...

Phase 5:

Wife finds out how many flashlights you have and how much the cost and beats you to a pulp. Then relegates you to a plastic 2D Rayovac incan. :mecry:

I think I'm at the start of Phase 3. Starting to get flashlights for an intended purpose or role (EDC, backup, utility, headlamp, camping/hiking, search/spot, etc.). Thing is, I'm not selling off the rest of my 'cheaper' lights.

Phase 4: realizing and accepting that the life as a flashoholic isn't just to really use the flashlights, but having fun with them. And the more flashlights- the more fun...

This is so true!

I can't pass up a bargain. I have way more flashlights than I need but now all my various kits have really cool lights stashed in them. My truck now sports an M6. But I do not worry about it being stolen because I have another M6 in my attic just in case. My work emergancy kit has a Turboheaded C3, L4 retrofitted with a KX2 (single stage), and a E2e w/MN02 LA. All my 1st aid kits have Arc AAAs. My loaner lights are an E1e, 6P w/BOG drop-in, and E1e w/KX1 (single stage). My kitchen junk drawer has a L2 in it. And my wife has a pretty decent collection that she actually uses and takes with her when travelling!

kelmo,

Not only one time I had thought: I have many lights now, and it's too much!, what about if I decide me for only ONE light?. Yes maybe I can specify which one that would be if I was allowed to have only one. But then I think: that may be unrealistic, think TWO!
Then I understand that will not be enough either. But if THREE???
After a while I am on TEN and finally back to the present situation...:sick2:

Regards, Patric

Which phase includes the feeling that commercial products are too homologated for you? You know, where you convince yourself that only a custom will accommodate your needs.

Wolfseye super storm or Maelstrom S1200 have last in mind and i'll be happy for a long long time then i'll go to -

Phase 4.

Put the money on the bank.

Step 4:
Realized you didn't need those other flashlights, since you have NOW discovered McGizmo's!

I think I'm stuck in Phase 2. It's my happy place.
+1

At some point, I'll probably exceed the amount of space that I'm willing to let the collection occupy, and I'll force myself to sell some off, give some away, etc. The same thing's happened with every other hobby I've had.

But, I'm not there yet. :)

I'm right there! Seems like I don't need a specific function or task in mind when I'm looking for lights now. Just in it for the enjoyment! Well said!

I guess I am lucky so far. I only have about 4 users. I understand the next brightest lite is hard to turn down. I did break down & ordered a Romisen RC-G2 for outdoor use.

I think I'm somewhat in phase 3, Sold one light to a friend and trying to sell some more. Having so many lights not being used is just a:thumbsdow Heard them crying for attention...

Phase 4 is now getting into activities that will require you to use your lights.:twothumbs:twothumbs:twothumbs

Making your own light.
Much more interesting than buying lights.

Yep, I agree there. It's time to start making and/or modifying lights to gain personal satisfaction in knowing that *you* did it with your own hands.
