I'm in search of a really nice EDC light. For now I am carrying an ultrafire c3 on my side and an itp eos ss on my keys. I love the itp but the c3 is ok at best and would like to purchase ONE quality light (for now). Like the title says if YOU could only choose one....Which one?

-will be used in attics, basements, crawl spaces, construction sites, etc...as I am an electrician

-prefer belt carry instead of pocket

-good throw with useful flood

-decent run time

-open to any battery options

-try to stay under $100 (preferably less)

-must be durable

There are just too many great choices and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. Could you more experienced people help a newbie out? I would love to try different ones until I find the right one but it's not in the budget as of yet so more lights will have to wait.

if i had to choose one EDC, it would be the quark123 non-tactical with a clip

its small, clips to my belt or my pocket, 170 lumens on high in a balanced throw/flood beam, easy UI, long runtime, i've dropped it many times from 3-10 feet onto tile, concrete, gravel, you name it and it may get nicked and scratched, but never anything detrimental to the function, it tailstands for a "candle mode" and i think shes beautiful!

SF 6P (LAPG has them on sale for $39 right now)
Malkoff M30
AW18650
Charger of your choice

If you're in the attic, and crawl spaces do you really need throw? How about a Zebralight headlamp? I really like my H501, it lives for stuff like you describe.

I really like my eagletac P100C2. Physically it fits all your criteria, except I haven't had it long enough to say how durable it is. You should be able ti get it + 17670 cells + charger for under $100.

I would try to find a good deal on a SureFire A2 Aviator with white Led,s.

If I could only have one handheld flashlight, that would be the one.
That is what I EDC when I leave the house.

The white LED's are low enough not to blind you, but bright enough to do "stuff" up close.

The 50 regulated lumens are powerful enough for a Personal light to "search" and "look" for stuff, ie in an attic, etc.

I find for an EDC for Personal use I like the low feature.

I think you ought to consider the LiteFlux LF3XT. It should meet all requirements and is fully programmable. About $65.

RA lights. I have the Twisty, and it is AWESOME. It has a good mix of throw and flood, 3 well thought out modes, and it is as tough as they come. Of course you may prefer a model with a clicky switch for convinience though.

For a pocket carry the NiteCore D10 would be a good choice - the 1 x AA format is a good choice for fitting in a pocket.

For holster carry I would be tempted to go a little bigger - 2 x AA or 2 x 123 or 1 x 18650. NE450No2 mentioned an A2 - that wouldn't be a bad choice at all - I just ordered one for $95 + shipping from the CPFMarketplace. But the Quark 2 x AA or 2 x 123 would be good choices too at a cheaper price. Or a Nitecore D20.

Of course there is no way I would go with only 1 light. I would prefer a Zebralight clipped to my pocket and a nice thrower in a holster. My H60w plus an A2 would work well.

My dad's a retired electrician and he's always used 2D Mags, Mini-Mags, and cheap Dorcy disposables. If he was still in the business I'd get him a Surefire G2L-FYL with a V26/27 leather holster. A G2L or 6PL would work too.

If I could only choose one I'd move back to America! :twothumbs

Then I can have them all.

For you? Get a 6PL and save yourself from this place. Run now while you can. Or stay and get an M60WL from Malkoff devices.

Gee, it's been nearly a MONTH since our last
" If you could only have one . . . . " thread. :)

Okay, i'm still gonna' say (for ME)
LiteFlux LF5XT

I'd also give a big Thumbs-Up to
Quark 2xAA

And, of course . . . .

No argument from any of us, if you decided to Buy Both !

Hmmmm... another "if only..." thread, I like all of my lights for their respective uses but would have to say THE most flexible light I own is the Jetbeam Jet-III M, why?

  • Deep reflector enables useful throw almost equal to my Mag' P7 whilst retaining significant "useful spill"
  • User interface allows for "super extended" run times (better than my SF L1)
  • Battery flexibility rivals my SF 6P but 18650 support makes it the best option
  • The UI best allows for both quick access & mode personalization

What more could you ask for in an EDC?

A2, nothing compares at the price range... Mayby a RA twisty.

How long is the runtime off merely the A2's 5mm LEDs? the only information I could find (relatively quickly) is 15h @ 100% with an additional 30h+ @ diminished output... sound about right?

If you are able to find a used L2, the old version with the luxeon V. The runtime is ok, but not anywhere close to the new cree's. The good part is the beam is a nice flood (no TIR) for close up work on low, but on high it can light up a room or entire crawl space (not just put out a spot).

The only downside is that it is kind of long, I'm only able to clip it to my belt and mine kind of had a greenish tint...yuk.

Just me 2 cents.

Sorry, I should have explained more. I do mostly comercial/industrial electrical work. My last attic was in a dorm for college kids (about 150ft long each wing).
