I'm Divorcing Her

Come on ... Top 10 reasons you should keep her around.

10. She thought of you. Many wives wouldn't even bother.
9. She knows you and understands that you love LED lights. She pays attention.
8. It not an INCAN.!
7. It has some usefulness and if you ever run out of batteries, you are golden.
6. She didn't buy it a Bed, Bath and Beyond.
5. It's not a tie
4. It can be used in the bedroom (and that would be funny as hell if pulled out at the right moment)
3. It didn't put a dent in you "real" light budget
2. You can let the kids play with it instead of your good lights. (Omit if used for #4)
1. She gave you a gift idea for someone you don't care for that much.

Happy Holiday's !

While they may not be the greatest, we keep a more advanced version of one of those wind up lights (has a radio and amber flasher) in the house and the car as last resort lights.

At least she bought you a flashlight...mine is still in "You have enough flashlights already" mode.

Great list. Now if I could only get my sambo to just buy me batteries (let alone lights).

If you mean what I think then no way. She would probably like it better than me and divorce ME! Then I'd be out on the streets with a suitcase full of flashlights.

It's just too bad that the good lights never seem to have a clip.

Great list, Budman!

I'd be overjoyed at this. Partly because my girlfriend could give me as a present a fauxton and I'd still love it just because it comes from her, and partly because that light might just come in handy. Yeah, it doesn't cost a hundred bucks, but it's unquestionably always ready to go.
Also, if you put a Nichia GS in there the output will probably double - those lights commonly use crappy generic LEDs that wouldn't have impressed anyone even in the early days of LED flashlights. From my experience, the tiny 80-or-so mAh NiMH batteries they use have also surprisingly low self-discharge, so you could do as I did and add an external jack for charging it when you don't need the dynamo, and only crank it if you run out of power.

+1. I would try to open the light up and upgrade the LED and any other parts I could improve. I wouldn't criticise. Such a crank light should have you excited about how to make it better - or create your own super crank light from scratch! I have made a number of crank lights over the years... it's an idea I'm crazy about :D

I would be careful what you say about her gift,as next time it could be this

You already modded it with a nichia led? that was quick

I do everything fast. Just ask my wife

Its been snowing here for three days straight. It was pretty easy to change out the LED. Thats a switch from most flashlights that you have to spend six months figuring out how to get it apart without destroying it. Anyway she was pleased to walk into my workshop and see "Windy" on my workbench in pieces. She knew I was having fun with it.

Hey ! While you're in there, figure out a way to jam in an e2 lithium and a switch...so you only have to crank if you want to. :)

With this type of lights the best to see is a throwshot!
A shot of how far you can throw it!

Regards,

Ok. In her defense here are some lights she has bought me over the last few years as gifts or "I have a surprise for you". Some of them "ain't to shabby" so I'm going to let her slide this time. Next time though she's out of here!

Well I'll tell ya what, if you do divorce her, I'll marry her. Heck, my wife wouldn't give me a flashlight if it was the last thing on the shelf on Xmas eve.... (of course there's a reason for that)..........

You are a lucky guy, at least she buys you things.... Just make a subliminal "sleep tape" to play while she is asleep, telling her the flashlights she needs to buy & she will get you what you really want......
