Hello.

I'm curious as to if any one has moded a 3AAA led (12led) fl to an standard maglite incan bulb.

I had a 12 led 3xAAA fl and it was an unregulated so so. A cheapy in other words.

It seemed a shame to through out the body . Therefore i got a stock maglite incan bulb and adapted it to the body.. OK it's very very bright..

Not an easy job mind you.

I'd like to hear your expierences/ideas?

Thanks

I've got a Craftsman Endurable 3AAA http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/craftsman_endurable.htm

My only reason for buying it was to put a 5-cell bulb in it with 3 CR123s and then I thought that it would be better to try a 3 cell bulb with a 17670. Anyway I put a 3 cell and a 2 cell bulb in there with the 3AAA and it worked, but I don't like to run incandescent lights on alkaline batteries.

Chances are you could get a Li-ion to fit in your light.

Hello and thanks Mikeg23.

Agreed that i would use 14500's or grater . However they are near impossible to get here uless you buy internationaly (aka ebay).

I normaly make my mods (led/incan's) with NIMH/LION compatable circuits.

Otherwise alkalines are not my favorate. Paticualrly AAA's that have perhaps 450mAH's average and about 900mAH's with nimhs.

I'l go and take a look at those craftsman fl's.

Thanks again.

you could take those carriers(2 of em)- that hold the 3xAAA cells, load em up with NIMH AAAs, and probably run 5 cell mag-xenon bulbs in a 2C maglight pretty well. Might be enough sag to go down to a 4 cell bulb, not sure on that though.

Well, what I meant was to take out the carrier that holds the three AAA and replace it with an 18500 or something.

Hello,and thanks.

Mikeg23. Yes i understood your point and was well taken. Battery life should always be a priority.

Ican's do have an advantage over leds when it comes to nimh's or lions. You don't need or not nearly as much voltage regulation.

Makes it a whole lot easier to work with.

The 3xAAA i made came out remarkably well and has a nice bright flood and fairly smooth.

I'm sorry to say this about maglite. However my cheap makeshift incan has a much better beam than my maglites.

I know you can make led's with aspherical lenses (recently made a couple). However i do not know what the outcome would be with an incan. Lens would have to be glass.

Anywho..

Enjoy.
