Actually never mind, I've seen the price of the SPY007.

I guess I'll get saving now, this looks like a really innovative piece of kit.....

I must be missing an inside joke with the knob thing. :candle:

Anyway, I guess I'd have to see how the current switch works to understand. What I saw in my head was a hollow rotary switch with splines on the inner diameter, and a splined shaft extending back from the knob. The splined shaft meshes with the rotary switch and also passes through it to push against a forward-clicky switch directly behind the rotary switch. Whether that leaves enough room for the batteries given the current configuration, I have no idea, but it *is* doable given the absence of competing constraints.

As for preventing accidental "ons", the seventh position on the rotary switch which is currently "off" could continue to be "off", so that even if the clicky switch got bumped the light wouldn't turn on. It would be in effect a lockout position.

Something to keep in mind.

fyrstormer,

There is a section view of the old 005 way back in the introducing the 005 thread (oldest thread in CF). You can get scale from the CR-123 batteries.

Cheers

I found this picture in one of your threads, and since I own a PD-S I found it very useful -- useful enough to repost:

Clearly it wasn't designed to have any wasted space. Kind of a shame, in a way, because I think my combo rotary/clicky switch would be a nice addition to the design, but of course it would need a few millimeters more depth to the switch assembly in order to work.

Whatever, it's not a big enough deal to turn me off (pun intended :nana:); I was sold as soon as I saw the emitter assembly -- which I will now repost because it is the epitome of hot kinky flashlight porn:

Thats an understatement....I have printed out this pic and taped it over the faces in all my playboys....has made the magazines that much better:tinfoil:!!

I've sold off a large portion of my collection to fund a Tri-V.

I had family and friends over today.
They noticed my collection out and asked why I was selling it off.
I just opened up the animated video and they said "You better get that!"
All of them loved the Tri-V and said it is By Far the coolest light they've ever seen!...I highly doubt anyone would disagree.

I will be waiting....impataintly...but waiting.

Cool Fall is not a one man show and, add to that, Wayne does 005 conversions to newer technology

Is this conversion the same as was offered some time back or can an upgraded 005 be further converted?

I will be patiently waiting, for two reasons:

1. Two grand is a lot of coin;
2. For two grand, it had better look like it was crafted by the hand of God himself.

Hmmm..."Two grand"....You must have some inside information on this one--I don't think even Dave has been able to determine a final number...

"...by the hand of God Himself". Jezz, I don't think so....I don't know of Dave's religious affiliation (if any) but I'm sure he hasn't claimed that....I'll have to recheck the threads....

Nah, the Tri-V will be another great light of a mortal's creation crafted by those same mortal hands and (gasp!!) NOT perfect....but well on the way! I sure hope Dave will have one Tri-V for me, I'm waiting!

In the meantime, I'm waiting for your (new) thread showing your design---if you get one of your lights on the street I'll just betcha you might sell a few--and just maybe one to me! lovecpf

That is the "pessimistic estimate", as high-powered business executives are prone to call it. As an engineer I prefer to hope for the best and plan for the worst, so that's the number I'm aiming for -- and if there's money left over, I'll buy myself an ice cream cone to celebrate.

All I mean is I don't want quality to suffer in any way for want of time to do it right.

I'm waiting for that to happen, too. All I gotta do is somehow actually come up with a better idea than Cool Fall or McGizmo or Lummi and then scratch up the coin to mass-produce it. Or I can give my ideas to other people who can act on them, one or the other. As a software engineer, my access to industrial machining equipment is somewhat limited, and CNC lathes are prohibitively expensive.

I guess time will tell as to the price--I'm a bit of a wait 'N see type so, when it comes out, we'll all know.:)

Don't worry about the quality from Dave, not the hand of God but certainly of high quality. All those who have held and used his lights can tell you they are at the top of the heap in terms of quality from the machining to the electronics to the assembly. If you have the fortune to own one (or two!) I'm sure you would agree. I have quite a few lights with which to compare it and I'll ask you to trust me (or others!) on this aspect. Dave is proud of what he has offered to us and he is a perfectionist. We all want to get the best for what we have paid and we all believe we have.

There are many aspects involved in getting an actual light into the hands of the public, most with which I'm not familiar--starting from the concept to the drawings to the more concrete design, machining, procurement of the components not built by the designer him/herself (emitters, lenses, etc). You have some good thoughts and, believe me as I have said before, we on the CPFs are always reading and thinking of the ideal light which has yet to be put into our hands. I'm not sure that event will ever happen however--our ideals seem to change with the advancements of all of the components of these lights. Congrats on giving this some serious thought. Maybe I'll be collecting and using your lights in the future! :D

This is SO very true. Just look at the 005's and 007's that were sold.
Perfectly centered emmiters, dust/smudge free reflectors and lenses, flawless bodies. The attention to details that Dave gives his builds from start to finish is superb:thumbsup:

It doesn't get any better than this folks.

Ahh...what do you guys know. Dave has been importing these things from Uzbekistan and just cleaning them up a little with some turtle wax and a fresh set of Surefires. :nana:

We have been cleaning up on these lights but now I have decided to let the cat out of the bag since he won't let me live in his tree house. :D

Good luck selling those SPY's now.....
