Hi,

Is a CR123a camera battery different than a CR123a used in a flashlight?

I bought some Duracell CA123a batts. today and put them in an Ultrafire CS. I could only get a momentary flash of light as I was pushing the reverse clickie in. Once it went goes beyond a certain point the light shuts off.

I noticed both ends of the battery is recessed. Are all Cr123a batts. recessed?

Thanks,

Mike

I've got an old Walgreens Ultra Photo Lithium battery, size 123, in my battery box that's for my mother's camera. It's still in the original packaging and it's got a regular bump on the anode end. It looks identical, except for the label, to the Sanyo's that are in my Brinkmann Maxfire. Sounds like you got something different if there's no bump on the end.

Sounds like you may have gotten protected 123 cells, which don't have the positive bump on the end (I know this is true of rechargeables, not sure about the primaries). So to make contact on the positive end you need a spacer or spring (some people use small magnets I've read).

All of the "photo" CR123As that I have bought were identical to regular CR123As and did not have the recessed positive end that yours have.

Your description of primary 123s with flat ends especially druracells, is unusual! Especially if you bought them at a normal retail outlet.
Perhaps a photo would help get you answers here.
Once we have figured out what kind of batteries you have, then we can solve the problem of them not working in the light! You might have a busted switch in your light, bad contact (due to unusual battery) etc

I've seen mention of a CA123A battery - as opposed to the CR123A battery most are familiar with - but never knew if it was a different battery or just a typo. Based on what you wrote, i guess it's a different battery.

CR123A's have a button like contact. Are you sure you didn't get a BR123A or something like that? Where did you get that Duracell?
