Hi all i intend to use the above lamp in my hotwire m*g mod . However from the packaging i see the warning symbol

ico_uv.gif

, acordding to osram means
"Lamp emits a high level of UV radiation", "Operation only in luminaire installations with protective shield".

So is it still safe to use?

There is also a symbol on the '633 box in front of me that says "500 Celsius"-that's 5 times hotter than boiling water!

Between the cancer causing UV rays it emits and the flesh melting heat-why would any sane person mess with these bulbs?

A front glass window should absorb the UV. That's what halogen desk lamps use.

The batteries are much more dangerous than the UV coming out the front... besides, you'll burn yourself if you put your hand in front of the light.

Possibly not...but hotwire lights are not safe. I would suggest you work your way up with less powerfull mods first.

Its the brightest lamp I know of for hotwire lights in that voltage range...instaflashes just below 18V..pulls 12 Amps.

I run one on 5 Emoli 26700 cells, 13 elite 2/3rd nimh, and have a 6 x M1 A123 host ready to be stepped down on a regulator for one.
They get hot quick.
You have to have the right cells for this. ( High current)

Dont worry about the UV damage that may catch you up in years...worry about the IR that the lamp produces in buckets and sets things on fire in seconds. ( paper / carpet etc.) first...if you survive that...your winning :naughty:

In all seriousness dont shine the light at yourself ( why would you do that anyway)...you wont be able to see much after a momentry flash, and its V-hot. We are talking 1000's of lumens here ( about ~6000 from memory, depending on drive Voltage)

Its My Favorte hotwire lamp and the reason I mess with it is that its very bright, and it makes an Ideal lamp for the 7C or 6D mag I run it in. ( the tail end of those hosts is not safe either if swung briskley)

Actually i am just worried about the UV, as i have another hotwire running 64458 bulb, but that bulb comes with a UV filter, while this dosent.

Just most of the CPF'ers who hang out in the Incan flashlight forum. I, of course would not be messing with that nasty bulb, and am content with only the 3000+ lumens of my USL, using the Osram 62138. :nana:

Apparently my attempt at humor went unnoticed.

I currently have a half dozen '633 bulbs-5 AW IMR's-a new 4D host-a golden shorty spring-a KD reflector-and a PVC battery holder.

Now all I need is for AlanB to talk his wife into taking my regulated drive to the post office so I can complete my light.

BTW-no I am not afraid of the radiation coming off the bulb-I'm ordering one of these from E-Bay just to be safe.

Yeah, I missed that. Good to see you appreciate another way to get a sun tan or fry eggs.

Just remember to put on sunscreen before you use it and you should be fine.
