Bit of confusion here, I know that CR123 is Lithium just your normal CR123A cells but regarding RCR123 is it actually Lithium or Lithium Ion.

Reason I asked is because on ebay I saw Nitecore RCR123 batteries and in the description they said Lithium Ion.

OK a CR123 is Lithium correct, and a RCR is Lithium Ion

Yup. The former is a "primary" and the latter is a "rechargeable".

For our flashlight applications, we use pretty much exclusively standard Li-ions ("ICRs") and IMRs. IMRs are for the insane-output lights that have extreme amp draw, but have much less capacity than the standard Li-ions.

OK thanks everyone for clearing it up with me. Now my other question here, in flashlight collection I have a Nitecore EC1 which takes either a CR123 or RCR123 battery. I know the primary CR123 is rated at 3V where as the RCR123 is rated at 3.7V, but I think the CR123 has a higher mAh (correct me if I'm wrong), so

1. Will the RCR123 give out a brighter beam ie utilizing the full 280 lumens of this light.

2. Will the LiIon RCR123 have a higher run time although its rated between 650 and 700
mAh.

Thanks

1. 310 lumens primary, 400 lumens Li-ion.

2. No, Li-ions run at a higher voltage with less mAh, you can expect roughly half the runtime on Li-ions. As usual, primary for runtime, Li-ion for output.
