So about 6 months ago I bought this light, and used it alot on and off for about 2 months.
I noticed the batteries were dying awful quick, and I didn't have a chance to actually test them to see if they were completely dead.
I'd fire up the light full throttle, and then it would dim severely, and then start to go dead. I was thinking these things had a better run time, but for some reason I figured it was just me using old cells that had been used in my 6P.
So I finally got some new batteries, and while I was out camping this weekend, a brand new (higher quality) 123a cell just started dimming on me after about a total of 10 minutes of low and high usage. I'm thinking there's got to be a short or something I'm not aware of so I pull that battery out, check for loose parts, clean the contacts, etc. No go. Battery seems dead.
So I put it away and use my trusty Pelican 4AA the rest of the night. I wake up in the morning and go home from the campsite. Not 12 hours later, I clicked the tail on my P2D-CE and sure enough, brilliant white light with no fading whatsoever from the same battery. I let it sit there, and ran it continuously with no issues on random modes for almost 20 minutes.
What gives? (and please forgive me, as I'm a flashlight newb)
