Leaky Alkalines. How about NiMH and Lithiums?

I always hear people talk about leaking alkalines. How about other battery types such as NiMH and Lithiums (primaries and rechargeables)? Do these leak as well? Anyone here with leaky NiMH and lithium stories to tell? I know lithiums explode, but do they just leak and not catch fire?

Thanks for any anecdotes.

I've had older NiMH leak too. I probably let them sit too long and and discharge, but at least they were in storage and not in a light.

Never had a NiMH or lithium cell leak, but I did have an AA Energizer lithium cell vent in an Infinity Ultra. I had to use Vise-grips to unscrew the head because of the pressure and then it flew across the room with a loud pop when it came off. The light still worked fine though. I've had at least a half dozen lights ruined over the years by leaky alkalines, and numerous others damaged but salvageable.

I am sure a lot of people here have remotes, any anecdotes of leaky batteries of any battery type in remotes?

I have had every brand of alkaline cell leak in my remotes, and just about everything else I have used them in over the years. I am now using eneloops in all of them and everything else. The only time I have had a NIMH leak is when I left a radio turned on. I had turned the volume down but had forgotten to turn the radio off...:ohgeez:

Ditto, especially on switching to Eneloops. I stopped using alky's because of this. Can't say I've ever seen a lithuim or NiMh leak. YMMV.

Yeah... Alkalines in mini-maglites completely siezed.

Never had ni-mh's leak.

RAM (Rechargable alkaline)s are notorious for leaking. Not to mentionfragile and require a specific charger.

Out of the 1,000+ batteries I have used, many Alkaline's leak of every brand and size. I hate the stupid things. Have had NiCad leak, but never had a NiMH or Li-Ion leak.

One NiMH AA expanded after being shorted, and there was some black material visible at the top contact joint, but it did not leak or ooze out anywhere.

The only NiMH cells I've had leak on me were a pair that I'd dropped. I assume the seals were somehow damaged on impact.
