I just received my lod-ceb Q4 this evening. this marks my second Fenix as the P1D (incredible light) was a bit too big for my keychain. I think I already know the answer to this but thought I'd check in with the forum anyway. When pointed at the ground, with a one-handed twist of the bezel, the light goes on momentarily, then dims. After a few seconds in the low mode, it fades out completely. If I attempt this with two hands (as most twisties seemingly require) the problem goes away. I determined that the bezel needs to be tightened rather tightly in order for the problem to not occur. Also the o-ring had some (and smelled of) lubricant on it, more than I would expect. I suspect that it was returned by a previous customer and I'm not getting a prime unit. Any ideas or similar experiences would be appreciated. I contacted Fenix-Store via email to see if I could exchange it. Regards to all.

I highly doubt that you got a return unit. Even if you did, they would have checked it and made sure it passed QC. Twisties tend to have to be twisted with both hands unless you apply significant amounts of lubricant. That said, it is this very same, significant amounts of lubricant that can cause contact problems.

Clean the threads and the threads inside the head with a damp cloth, make sure its only damp, or with and alcohol swab. Then relube it with NON-petroleoum based lubricant. Give it a try.

If you feel that it is indeed taking far more tightening then should be necessary then im sure fenix-store will help you out. :)

It just sounds like a minor contact issue. Usually when you only use one hand to turn the bezel you inadvertently torque the head slightly and apply more contact pressure than if you only twisted the head in perfect alignment.

Try cleaning the threads inside of the head with some isopropyl alcohol. Then clean the face of the open battery tube by twisting the open edge into a Scotchbright or 3M pad. Re-clean that edge again, lube the threads and o-ring and reassemble everything. See if that helps a bit.

Good Luck

These above guys are right.

Cleaning can make a world of difference. Batteries can also make a difference.

Initially, when I first tried one-handing my LOD, I noticed the same symptoms you did.

What happened is like Patriot36 says -with one-handed activation, you can torque the head down on a slight angle, making very uneven, unstable contact.

The light will come on, flicker, maybe change modes, and then blink out.

Since there is not alot of surface area on the LOD to grip, it takes some practice to be able to evenly tighten down the head, and properly activate the light, with one hand.

This is why I love the StreamlightMicrostream end cap added to my L0D CE!!

Thanks to all who replied:
After cleaning the head and threads...BIG improvement. I think maybe some of the lubricant (does it come lubricated from factory?) affected the contact. The battery I was using was an alkaline I robbed from a remote control (alkaline) so I'm sure that has something to do with it too. I will put a lithium Energizer in tonight. The one-handed twist has been mastered, but I experience no more issues with the two-handed twist for even torque. It's a great light, very bright for used alkalines! Looking forward to seeing what it can do on Lithiums.

First thing I did when I got my L0D was clean it, but I've never seen such issues and I always turn it on one-handed. It twists very easy and is quite easy to change modes one-handed.
