So here's where I'm at, I've got a Preon 2 and I'm pretty happy with most everything about it for the past 6 months. I've got a little extra cash and am trying to decide between the LD05 or picking up another Preon 2 with the Warm LED.

Looking over the few reviews it appears the LD05 has more throw than the Preon 2 and also activates on medium, as opposed to low. The trade-off is the increased weight of the LD05 and lack of a lock-out feature.

Anyone have any input on the LD05 v. Warm White Preon 2? Or even just the LD05, there's not a lot of info out there about it.

You can unscrew the LD05's head several turns. At that point, the batteries fail to make contact and the light is locked out. However, the head is pretty loose when that happens on my LD05.

I carry and use the LD05 almost daily, mainly utilizing the medium brightness setting.

If you already own a Preon, try an LD05 for variety.

LD05 is worth picking up. I carry mine in the back-pocket of my pants. It has never once turned on accidentally by sitting down. Also, despite the extra length and weight compared to a Preon II, the LD05 is still penlight-sized. Just clip it to a pocket if you want to take it with you. A lock-out feature isn't all that important on the LD05. Yes, it's longer and a bit heavier than a Preon II. But the difference is not THAT big.

I have not compared the LD05 to a warm Preon, but I have compared it to the cool preon and some other lights.

The rest of the comparison is here.

Anyone tried their LD05 with Energizer e2 lithium cells?

No, but I have tested it up to 3.2 volt (From a power supply), it has a stable output from 1.4 and up. Because it uses pwm to regulate with, the low level stays low at the higher voltages.

Thanks for the response guys.

Good to know I can use my LD05 with my favorite type of AAA cells. :)
