I always wondered why cool white LEDs achieved better efficiency than warm white ones,
while the warm white LEDs have more of their output near the maximum of the eye response curve.

Now Philips comes out with a high efficient warm white LED.
I'd guess that a better phosphorus layer is the main reason for the new LED's good performance.

270 i think there was a similar thread on this subject, NewBie had commented that the way Royal Philips Luxeons are binned is at very less duty cycle some thing in the order of fraction of a second, which does not even allow the die to heat and that too at 25 degrees temperature, so the binning is highly un-realistic .. talk about the 2000 mA :nana:

thanks VIren. There are so many different threads on Fenix/jetbeam/wahtever Asian lights in LED, I didn't even notice this has already been talked about.

I'll go look for it now, hope I don't see one too many threads on "look what new lights that look like ____ but isn't" and get lost.

I think the general consensus when the other thread about this materialised
was that "the proof of the pudding is in the eating"

Given Phillips Lumileds' track record with making claims about the K2 that
were unfulfilled, it would be downright stupid to become too excited about
any other advanced advertising from them.

More likely this is a desperate attempt to try to halt the decline of their
reputation amongst their former clients (like Surefire), who have realised
that they needed to defect to other companies (like Cree and Seoul) to
keep their products competitive.
