My fellow addicts....I mean enthusiasts.

What is the differance between "old style" mag switch and "new"?

I was looking online for a new one in case I fubar'ed mine wilst installing a
Kiu socket or doing resitance fixes, and there is old and new available.

Is old or new better for modding?
I thought I read the newer swiches have less resistance? True/False?

The website wanted to know if my serial number had a "D" in front of it...
what does that mean?

Are the over all inside diameters the same? ie can I put new switch in old body and vice versa?

Any other info on this subject would be great.

I just took my switch apart and i did not see any serial numbers on the switch. The body is serial numbered up near the head. Older Mags do not have a letter before the numbers. Newer models have either a "C" or "D" before the numbers on their respective "C" or 'D" bodies.
Btw, some members have found that the older "C" bodies (with no C in the serial number) will fit IMR "C"cells without having to bore the body.

The older MagD's, no letter in the serial number, have a slightly larger diameter.
So you need to make sure to get the appropriate switch or it won't fit. Some other differences: the old switch is retained at the front with a large screw in ring. The new switches have a simple snap ring. The switch design is also significantly different. The old switch had most of the parts in the black body of the switch and the bulb post is seperate. The new switch has the main body and bulb post as all one piece and the operating part of the switch in a small seperate drop in unit. The old one has a continuous spring that goes from down inside the switch all the way up to the bulb. I have had the solder on the tip of the bulb fuse to the spring in the switch and make it a pain to try to replace bulbs. The new switch uses a smaller spring with metal caps on both ends. The old C switches have this same capped spring setup. I have never had a bulb fuse to one of these spring caps.

So the old switch sounds very different.
The old one sounds easier to put I kiu socket on if the post sepperate.
Looking at flashlightkings website I am confused....it says the barrel of the 3D is smaller than the 2d,4d,5d,6d....that cant' be right can it? must be typo.
So the older mags vs new...the outside diameter is same but inside is slighter bigger on the old mags?

Nope. The older D Mags had a larger inside and outside diameter. I have an old, pre "D" 2D Mag, a later "D" 2D Mag, and a new Rebel LED 2D Mag and they all have different bodies and switch assemblies. The heads and tails are the same on the newer ones ("D" and Rebel) but the older one has very few components that are compatible with the newer ones (lens, bezel -I think-, and reflector).
