I currently own a mag85 and 74 which ive had for several years now and love them both! My question though is about the 3d mags bored out to accept the fivemega 12aa carriers, if i run a osram 62138 100w, do i need to use 12 cells or 11 with a dummy cell? Ive heard mixed stories on this and just want to clarify. Also, what size reflector opening do i need to run with such a buld? i figured it would have to be atleast 15mm or so id think. And the most important question of all, what kind of lumen rating should i expect from this setup?

I don't know this particular bulb, but based on my research, I'd say 11.

Lux's Chart for this bulb says it'll flash at 15volts.

A single cell could be up to 1.45v each right off the charger. x11 = 15.95 :poof:.
If you let it sit, it'll settle to about 1.3 - 1.35v. = 14.3 - 14.8, which will put you in the upper limits of the bulbs performance to allow for safe startup.

The mininum average voltage you'll get out of 12 cells is 15v @ 1.25v a cell.

Now, depending on how much these cells will sag under that load, you could likely do 12 cells if you had a softstart.

Unless someone who knows the bulb chimes in, I hope this helps.
This is the logic and conclusion I'd come to if I was building the Mag138.

Cool! thanks for the chart:twothumbs Anyone know where to get the 62138, fivemega's post says hes out, anybody else on here sell them?
