Just received a 2-3D Malkoff drop for my ML and was very excited to try on.

(FYI I have two 3D MLs, one is about 7 years ago and one is about 1 year old. Both have the "D" in the serial number.)

So I was very excited to drop it into my older ML, and it didn't work:thinking:. So I put back the Terralux 6EX K2 TFFC in to check, bright as day. Just to make sure I put in another Terralux 6EX w/ the SSC P4 and the M@glite LED, bright as day....put the Malkoff back in, no light.:thinking:

So i decided to try the Malkoff onmy newer ML, lit up like the sun.
-This led me to swap batteries, tailcaps, and heads with the old one and new one in a number of combinations.... also check threads and contact points too...

VERDICT: YAY in NEW, NAY in OLD.... :shakehead

Any ideas??

It's a known albiet not very well known issue. Any old style M@g that has no letter at the beginning of the serial number... is machined a bit differently and won't work with precision-fit dropins like Malkoff or Elektrolumens.
Buried in the Malkoff devices site is a warning at the top of this page about it.
You'll just have to spring for a new one or return it I guess.

Sounds like a contact problem. Stretch the tailspring on the dropin a little. I believe that may fix it.

It's fixed! Thanks Gene ... it was a contact issue. The depth of the positive-contact point on my older M@glite was almost 3mm deeper than my new M@glite! I did a number on that tailspring to stretch 3mm.
