Hey all, I was lucky enough to get an M61 module the other day while they were available on Gene's website and I'm trying to piece together an MD2. I've located an HAIII body, AW18650 2600mah cell and a UCL lens. The question I have is, how many of you are running the shroud and tailclip that is offered? What are your opinions?

I'm primarly going to use this light for house duty as it is replacing my Lumens Factory D26 Special 3.7V that I'd been running in a G2 with a Pila 600S for a little bit. (I'll be putting up for sale later, anyway)

I'm not sure if I want to add the shroud and clip and want to hear from anyone who's tried it as to pros and cons. I've attached a picture of of the one in question. Thanks for your advice.

Well, the MD2 with the M60 (now the M61) was perfect except for three things:

Only one stage,
No tailstanding,
No pocketclip.

I put in a two stage switch and the shroud/clip.....yeah, I guess you could say I like it. The light is now my most carried when I'm going to be going in and out of the house.

I have one on an MD2 I use at home, and am mostly pleased with it. I like that the clip makes sticking it in a pocket easier, that it doesn't roll off the table as easily, and that it tail stands (IMO, the least important feature). The size of the shroud/clip is good in that it doesn't make the light appreciably bigger or make it bulkier in your pocket.

I dislike that it makes accessing the clicky switch more difficult when using the natural Rogers hold with the light. Because the shroud is so deep, it forces the thumb into a more direct-from-behind approach to the switch, if you know what I mean. Without the shroud, it's much easier to access the switch with the thumb. At times, that means I'll just use a cigar style hold on the light, but that's not as secure a grip, IMO.

This is most critical if you're using the light as a weapons-light, because sure control of the momentary switch is much more difficult with the shroud in place, IMO. If I was using this light with a handgun, I'd definitely ditch the shroud.

At $25 each, it's alot of money for what is essentially a clip, and once on the light, I'm not sure you can remove it without destroying it. Given all that, I've considered getting another one for the MD3 Wildcat, but have to see what kind of holster I end up with first.

I'm a big fan, of both the MD2 and the shroud/clip assembly. I have one on each of my three MD2's (black, orange, and camo) and for me, the addition of a clip makes it considerably more useful. Opinions on clips and tailstanding vary widely, but my personal experience is very positive.

I haven't considered removal, so I have no insight as to reversability. Installing them is a snap.

The issue mentioned about thumb angle when using the switch is correct, but wasn't anywhere near a deal-breaker for me.

It is made of Delrin (plastic) and must be boiled for 2 - 3 minutes. The bond will be solid and permanant. I guess if one decides later it is not desired then it must be destroyed to be removed. I'm guessing as time passes, improvements will be made or conceived as with everything else. Man's nature is to build a better mousetrap. For now though, this is the mousetrap to consider. All good points so far but I'm still torn. I called Gene's shop to inquire today as to when availabilty will be made as well as the hi/low ring since the website showed "out of stock". I was surprised when Cathy told me they had some and just hadn't updated the website. I ordered one and will decided later if I permanantly mount it or not. I also had a battery question and she put Gene on the line who graciously and patiently helped me out with. Very seldom do owners offer such accessibility, what great people! God bless them and thier work!!

it took me months to round up all the pieces for my Malkoff. the switch ring and tail shroud/clip were the final pieces. with my M61 i would say it's about as perfect a light as any. $25 seems a little steep for the tail shroud and clip but would buy another if i needed it.

I like the shroud, I don't really care for the clip so I took mine off. As for installing, if have a pot of water already at a boil, I just drop the shroud in for about 15 seconds. That's all I've ever needed, it then slips right on.

Taking it off is just as easy, remove head and battery, stick tail of light in boiling water for 5 - 10 seconds, shroud comes right off!! Piece of cake!!

So you gotta soften it and then let it cool on the light?
Hmm
If only the MD2 had a removable tail

I also have the shrould and clip on my MD2 and I love it. I previously had the light in a Ripoff's holster and while it was OK, I find that clipping the light to the inside of my pants made it more accessible for me. Holster rode too high and whipping out the light was hard on my arthritic shoulder but with the clip it rides lower and is perfect for front or rear pocket. The only drawback to (my) clip is that it seems to be overly tight and I mean TIGHT. I have to force the clip over my jeans material. I also have 4 Oveready shroulds and clip that seems to be the same and they're easier to pocket with my 6P's. At least with the Malkoff's, the light will NEVER slip out. For what it's worth - MD2 with shrould and clip will also slip into the Ripoff's holster.

Well I've taken the advice that the tail clip and shroud are favored and have pulled the trigger on one. So I've got all my parts ready to assemble and will let you know how I like it.
