Alright guys, maybe you can help me out. Trying to decide if I should pick one up while Gene still has them. The thing is, it would be by far the most ive spent on a flashlight ever! When there are choices that are 100 buck cheaper, i wonder do they compare. IE: Jetbeam M1X & the Tiablo ACE G. I also have a Deerelight DBS V2, single stage that runs primaries. It's a nice light that throws pretty far and was just about king of the heap a few years ago at that price point. I think I paid 110 bucks for it.

So, my questions are: Does anyone have these 4 lights to compare? Considering I already have the DBS, will the Wildcat be a significant improvement in say light output? throw? I know the beam will be nicer overall but thats less important to me.I also know the build quality on the Malkoff is going to be superior since it's hand built by Gene. Also the same questions in regards to the ACE-G & the M1X. These lights look great for the money but I'm wondering how much improvement they would be over the DBS.

Really i'm just looking for something thats going to kick the DBS's *** in throw, spill & output.

Thanks for any help.

The Wildcat is not a super thrower. It has a beam profile similar to the Malkoff M60 but with a much fatter hotspot.

Thanks, Gene

I would go with the WildCat, if you dont like it (yeah right!), you should get most if not all your $$$ back.

I see Gene was on it early this morning with a reply! :D

Well, if all you want is more throw, the aspheric lens replacement head for your DBS should really wow you.

I don't have the Wildcat, but the JB M1X is pretty great. Outputs should be similar, though the Wildcat would probably have the nicer beam (donut hole from the M1X)

Ok, after doing some more research, since I already have a dedicated thrower in the DBS, i've narrowed it down to The Wildcat (obviously :)) and the the Talblo ACE-G. Now I know one is a custom and one isn't. I know Gene's will have a nicer beam overall but I was curious about overall output between these two lights. At the end of the day one is a little more than 100$ cheaper and I don't on any custom lights yet. Tiablo says the Lux on the the G is around 15k. Anyone have the numbers on the Wildcat? The lumens seem pretty close.

It seems these two lights provide the best of both worlds in terms of a nice amount of throw and nice amount of spill.

By the by, I would be running primaries.

Thanks!

I think the Malkoff would be more of a departure from what you already have and likely the more usable beam - not to mention it comes from a very reliable source that will truly back it up (and add a MD2 head to the mix and you can really customize it for whatever purpose you have at hand).

If you are paying for your own primary cells, then perhaps you should consider to wait on the purchase. Feeding primary cells to a power light gets expensive much faster than you might initially think.

The challenge for me at least, was that I would use a primary cell pack for maybe 1/4 - 1/2 of its capacity, then turn it off. The next time I wanted to use it, I had to think about how much was probably left, and how long I needed it for, plus some reserve time. If I didn't feel like it was enough, then I would re-load with fresh primary cells, and the old ones never really got efficiently used.

It was kind of bothersome actually, and since a lot of this was done with CR2s, it got expensive fast.

If you are starting to get serious about lights, consider to get a good general purpose charger like a Triton or Hyperion, so that it can take care of a wide range of charge needs.
