You all know what a Mc2ES is : a 2-level brighness tailcap that fits avery Surefire E series or compatible ( Aleph , UBH , Barlog etc.) battery tube.

And thats all ?

No ! Here are some ( but not all the ) features :

1. 2 colors available : HA Natural and HA Black.

2. 2 level switch : when you buy the Mc2ES you have to choose the value of the resistor that is inside the tailcap , Have a look at the end of this page on KJ website to discover the value of the resistor that you prefer , if you prefer a "dim low mode" ( Arc AAA - like ) choose a higer value resistor (60 Hom), if you prefer a low mode that is brighter , choose a lower (15 Hom or 22 Hom) value resistor.
Anyway you can change later the board with the resistor to adjust the low output of your flashlight for your needs .

3. 2 mode activation : twist for low level , twist more for full power or push for low level , push more for full power .

4. Tailguard : prevent unwanted activation.

5. Candlemode possible : use the low level output for hours of runtime.

6. Lockout : if you think that the tailguard is not enough you can unscrew the tailcap to prevent unwanted activation.

7. Waterproof.

8. Disassemble-able : easy service and repair / if you dings or scratch it you can just buy only the exterior of the switch and save money / change the resistor board for a dimmer or brighter low mode.

9. 1 hole for a lanyard or a keyring :

10. 1 hole for a tripod mount :

11. 1 hole for a En-Tab add-on : secure clip to a belt-clip or to a wall-mount / anti-roll device / better grip / syringe-mode possible.

13. Buy ( at the Shoppe ) only the internal 2-level switch and install it in your Z57 or Z52 or E2Defender tailcap , see the instructions on KJ Website.

14. Buy a turnkey unit from McGizmo or build it yourself using the kit that you can buy at the Shoppe.

15. Can be trasformed in a clicky switch ( ask McGizmo to do it for you /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

I think that there are more features ... find it by yourself, i can't do all the work /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/whoopin.gif.

After some weeks of use, i can say that this tailcap has been build with top-quality materials and the look and finish match very well the Surefire torches.

But BEWARE ! If you buy one you can't go back using your old tailcaps , you will have to buy others for every SF-E series (Led) you own.

I was happy with my Z57 Z52 etc., when i received my Aleph1 ( with the Mc2ES ) i had to try the Mc2ES with my L4 , now the Z57 is stored in a drawer.

Thats all ..... wait a second ... another /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif for McGizmo.

Great review, as always from you.

Woah, it can be converted into a clickie? Does it retain the 2 stages? Does it click onto high or low? This would be awesome if you could give more detail. Thanks!

Sithjedi333,

Thanks and yes , it can be converted in a clickie but you lose the 2-level brightness /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif , only full power /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

Wow Marco! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I need to get you and kj and Bernhard to pool your resources in a "read only" sticky(s) thread on the McGizmo forum! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Regarding the clickie mod. I use the guts from the Z57 and it is viable but not self contained or friendly upon removal! There is also the issue of needing a clickie doner! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

I am also working on a pocket/ belt clip for the McE2S which would also be compatible with the trim line tail cap that will soon be available. I am making some good progress but the clip will likely require additional forming and finish by yours truly as well as drilled and tapped holes in the guard section of the caps. It most likely will be a relatively expensive add on modification so I don't know how viable it will ultimately be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

ive read somewhere that it is not good to under-drive a incandacent bulb, so does this mean that it is not a good idea to use the 'low' mode with incandacents?

Yes dandruff, that is my understanding as well! These switches should not be used on incandescent LA's!

Marco /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The McE2S is the biggest revolution in CPF custom E-series lighting this year IMHO!
Can't say this often enough!
Don /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Anotehr "feature" would be that the McE2S switch can be housed in Z52 and Z57 endcaps if the Aleph-Tailcap is too big for you ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

How easy (or hard...) would it be to change the resistance from let's say 15 ohms to 60 omhs myself without having to buy a different tailcap? Would it be possible at all?

You need a 3/32" allen wrench, pliers and a 60 ohm PCB board which you can buy seperately from the shoppe. It is pretty easy, IMHO.

Marco,

Terrific informative review

Bernhard,

I couldn't agree more about the McE2S; your term "revolution" is not an overstatement

marco, not only great to trade with but you also write great reviews. your info came just right. i'd also like one of these.
which resistance do you use with your l4? 22 ohms? could you describe the brightness in low mode with other lights you know?
do you have the tritium version? do you have a close up pic to see how the tritium is connected to the body?
all the best,
marc

Makar,

thanks again for your words , i use a 15ohms version with the L4 because i prefer a brighter low mode , with 22 ohm i get double brighness of an Arc AA , with the 15ohms i get 50-70% more lux.
The tritium vial is installed by Don , you don't have to worry about it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif :

Sorry for the dust ......

thanks marco!
i think i'll take the 22 ohm. i like to have an low-output opf an lucido lightwave 2000. this is ca 2 arc aas i think...
tritium looks coooooool!

ooops ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif
seems I am getting old then ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Those tritium vials seem exposed in those /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif close-up pics. Isn't there a reasonable chance of breaking them when the light is dropped?

bernhard

You are right Bernhard /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif "seem" exposed but they don't are exposed , they are well "recessed" and protected by the knurling , no chance to break them , don't worry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
