I have been browsing these forums for a while and just got my first HID light, exciting!

http://www.batteryjunction.com/mega-illuminator.html

I have been charging it over night (going on 16 hours) and the 'charging' light is still on, not the 'full'. Is this normal for the first charge? The manual says a full charge in 10 hours which is why I'm curious. I'm dying to turn this thing on, but want to be sure that battery gets is first good charge!

Try unplugging it, waiting a few moments, then plugging it back in. You might find the "full" light on. 16 hours seems long. IIRC, my Costco HID (early Ti Illuminator made by same company) had similar quirks when new.

If no change, use the light for 20 minutes or so to draw down the battery, then plug it in to charge. A few charge/discharge cycles may sort things out.

Thanks, the brief unplug worked and it goes directly to green when plugged back in now. I'm hoping it didn't overcharge when not recognizing the full criteria (is that possible?)

P.S. Wow, that thing is bright. I can see how this could lead to an addiction. Looking forward to darkness today to play with distance and runtime!

I have two lights and IIRC, both reacted the same as yours the first time I charged them. They still run and charge fine after more than 2 or 3 years.

SLA batteries are alright a accepting a little overcharging (not as good a ni-cd's but way better than Li-ions).

Was the battery on the warm side when the light was charging for 16hrs? If it was, the battery was "burning" off some excess charge in the form of heat.

This build pressure in the cells which can release some electrolyte in the form of hydrogen gas, which will marginally decrease the capacity of the battery. Other than that you should be fine:)

The battery will still perform great. Enjoy the light:thumbsup:

Thanks everyone!! Just took it out to the park on my usual dog walk route and attracted quite a crowd. You sure have to be careful not to hit anyone in the eyes :D It's been running for a good hour now and is as bright as ever.

:welcome:

Glad to see that you light works well. Must sure be amazing it light up(especially for normal people).

That's one heck of a nice HID. I replaced the 7Ah battery in my POB for a 9Ah like your Mega Illuminator has, so I know you're going to get great run times. Glad it's working great for you.
