Melbourne CPF meet

Hello guys, it seems like it's been ages since the last meet... an awesome meet, at which we ate awesome meat (bad joke, I know).

Norm and I were talking and we thought it would be a good idea to have a meet early in 2009, somewhere in Melbourne.

Three questions though...

1. The weekend of January 3/4 or Sat 17/18 are good for me at this stage? Do they suit anyone else.

2. Anyone up for dinner?

3. Venue for the meet?

edit: IT'S ON! Saturday January 17 2009, 7:30 pm.

1. The meet will start at 7:30 with dinner at Home Hotel, Warburton Hwy (opposite Don Rd), Launching Place.

2. After dinner it's on to photonic fun at kiwiman's place! (Many thanks Stewart!)

Both dates are good--will give some thought on location options.
I'm sure Gavin will be in--he was looking at going to Sydney--must be having withdrawal symptoms.

Hey Norm, I'm a tad closer to Warragul now that I've temporarily relocated to Cranbourne North.

Someone mentioned Steavenson's Falls the last time right?? Might be too far though for most.

Hi Fusion_m8, England was rainy but it was a great experience to be overseas. Glad I went in summer! I went to a cpf meet over there - that was awesome fun.

That's great Gav we I can pick you up. One of my daughters lives very close to you.
I'm not fussed about the location I just want to go somewhere and let my new HID stretch it's legs.

Could we get some suggestions for venues?

It appears that we're all pretty spread out, from Warragul to Geelong with everything else in between.

The park we went to in Kew was fairly central, not really dark but acceptable.
Unless some has any better suggestions.

Just checked moon phases for Jan. The weekend of 3/4 would be much better. Other date is Full moon time.

Studley Park in Kew. That area we went to he last time wasn't really that good. There's another area in Studley Park where there's an oval, that place will be deserted and not have any couples frolicking on the river banks.

- Wattle Park
- Birrarung Park, Kew (Google maps link) (Parks Victoria) - don't know how it is at night

The part of Studley park quokked is referring to is nice, although it does suffer from light pollution.

And put it up against an incan that will give it a run for it's money

Another idea (I think it's a good one anyway) - somewhere on Mt Dandenong. It's got restaurants, it's dark and it's got good targets. But it might be a bit far for those coming from Geelong though...

I'd suggest keeping it central, however that will mean more atmospheric light issues.

Wattle park is actually a pretty good call, there's not a whole lot of light in there and the canopy is thick.
