I see tons of conflicting info on this charger. I want to understand the correct specs for this charger. Here are the confusing aspects of this charger I've heard.

1. a. - The charger charges at 1 amp normal, 500ma soft regardless of AA or AAA cells being inserted
b. - The charger charges AA and AAA at different rates, AA 1.0/0.5 amp and AAA 0.7/0.35 amp.

2. a. - The charger discharges at 500ma normal, 250ma soft
b. - The charger discharges at 250ma no matter what mode

So....what is the accurate behavior of this charger?

I can confirm one thing so far, the charger does not differentiate between AA and AAA. I used a multimeter to test that both the AAA and AA negative terminals are tied together. There is no AAA detection switch like the C801D or C808M either.

So be careful putting AAA batteries in here without pressing the soft charge button, they'll be pumped with 1amp of current which may be too much for them.

i think the soft mode slow pulses, could that be the reason they give different info? that Average rate and measured at any one time rate is different?
i think i have the 808? and measuring all the things it was doing, was complex, so i havent sorted it all out yet,got lazy.
dpending on the rate of pulses too, it could take more than a simple DMM to know everything.

There was a thread about this a long time ago, bc. I can't find anything at the moment. Could be too, that it was just mentioned in one of the Maha threads.

As I remember, the specs/description didn't/don't agree or something like that, but I can't remember for sure what is what. Seems like I remember that it was determined that it does charge AAA's at the 700/350mA rate, same as the 808 and 801, but don't quote me on that. Hey, at least I can tell you that it was in the batteries Forum!:)

I'm pretty sure the C800S charges AA and AAA at the same rate because...

1. The manual only mentions one set of charge rates
2. AA and AAA contacts are both electrically connected
3. There is no AAA detection switch like the 801d and 808m

I still have to figure out the soft vs normal discharge rates to see if they are actually different. On the 801d and 808m they definitely are slower.
