Managed to find some time tonight to mod my BA Lioncub to an SSC P4... Bin on the P4 is USX0I... Instead of modding the McR20 reflector, I'm using a standard/unmodded IMS SO20XA reflector which seems to work alright... The beam isn't perfect, but I just couldn't be bothered to mod a reflector after putting in the SSC.. :)

Anyway, I'm comparing it with my Black HA Lioncub #008/100 which still has the original Luxeon star in it... I'm not sure exactly what bin is in it, but I'm guessing either a TX0J or TX0K. To make sure I'm comparing apples to apples, both Lioncubs are powered using 18650 batteries, with exactly the same voltage (4.15V), and I've switched the reflector on the Black Lioncub back to the IMS SO20XA reflector as well.

Here are the Beamshots:

I just measured the current from the battery, and it's only drawing 0.92A, so I think the Vf on this particular emitter should do just fine in the LionCub... :D

Here is a picture of the modded Lioncub head... You can see that the yellow basically fills the whole reflector, which means that it is pretty much in focus without modifications...

I wonder if you got lucky on the VF of the P4 USX0I for direct drive. Tested any others? If the VF's are OK for all those this would be a great easy upgrade for all those Cubs and LionHearts out there...

Ken, yes, I will mod a McR20 when I have the time and patience to do it right.. :)

Lips, no idea on the Vf of the others yet.. This was the first one that I opened, and it just turned out right.. :grin2: However, since these are supposed to be binned at a Vf of I (3.25 to 3.50V at 350mah), I suppose that pushing it to 700ma or 1A would bring it close to 4V, which would be about right for direct driving using Li-ion.. So, it's possible that this one that I used isn't a fluke.. :)

Greg, I don`t want to change the subject of yout threadbut every attempt I have made to send you a PM have failed with a too busy signal!:ohgeez:

I bought a 2" head from you a while back on B/S/T. It fits on a SureFire P3 battery tube I have. Is it SureFire C series compatible? Pleas try to send me a PM.

Thank you:)

Gotta love that noticable side spill increase.

Yes, not only is the hotspot brighter, but the side spill is noticeably brighter as well. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade.. :) I was surprised that the IMS SO20XA can be used without modification, but the beamshot shows that it is definitely in focus.. I did also try the standard McR20, but the beam is basically a flood with a minor hotspot, so I'll need to file it down to bring the emitter into focus..
