More Power than a Microfire - but small and moddable!

Hi boys!

Some weeks ago I modded my Microfire Warrior K3500R for heavy bike use and described it in the bicycle section.
My detailed description of my light can be found here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=192912

Since I ordered a new freeride bike I think about starting a new project with even more power :whistle: , the Microfire will then remain on my enduro bike.

The requests:
* more output
* small for mounting on the handlebar without troubles
* 3 hours of full output with one load
* easy connection of an external battery pack would be nice
* not to costly

Has anybody an idea?

I have the ability and the equipment to make a decent light out of it, but it's hard to find a hid light which comes as close as possible to the needs I have.
I don't want to design a whole new light, I just want to make some minor modifications and keep the light in original state, as I did with the Microfire.

Many thanks for any help or suggestions! :thumbsup:

Great like btw. I just went and checked it out.

As for as another HID goes, I really don't know what you would use, because the K3500 is already relatively small and bright compared to anything else.

The new 30W Polarion will probably be substantially brighter and have better color temperature than the K3500, but none of us regular folk have seen it yet. Depending on it's form, it may lend itself well to mounting options. Don't hold your breath for the release though. It's probably several months away still.

One last thought... The head of the X990 may work for what you're trying to do. It's quite a bit brighter than the K3500, 4200K color, and the top end (the head) is lightweight and removable at the head pivot point. It's also focusable with a nice wide beam if you wish.

Ok...I'm done rambling :grin2:

Thank you!

Wow, the X990 is huge, I doubt that this is very comfortable on the handlebar when jumping and so on. I think it just one class to big. :(

I forgot to mention that I use two Fenix L2D Q5 on my helmet in combination with the Microfire, because the side spill of the hid in front of the bike is not so well. I use them to lighten up the first 5 meters in slow and difficult sections.
But since I reach quite high speeds I need something with good range and the Microfire is very good for that!

Since there seems to be few other HID lights which may suite my needs, do you think is it possible to build a multi-led light which can outperform my current Microfire?

With regards to the size, yeah, it's huge but since your so creative I though that you might be able to do something with just the head, while powering it with your own batteries and such.

As wv mentioned, five P7 emitters could do it if they were heat sinked and cooled properly. In order to keep it small (no bigger than the k3500 head) you'd have to cool it with forced air I would think. It would make for a very useful beam with great color temperature.
