Way back I bought a couple Rexlights, two 14500 batteries and this Ekarp charger.

The description on the charger says that it also works for 14500 batteries. However the batteries are much too short to hit the contacts in the 18650 slots. How exactly does one charge 14500 batteries in here?

I think i heard about someone filling gaps with pennies. is this actually a recommended solution or a dangerous one?

I just bent the contacts on one side so that it fits a 14mm battery instead of an 18mm. It isn't perfect, but the battery will stay there unless you shake it around.

Just don't use a loaded rimfire cartridge! I don't think there's enough current or temperature involved (since the MythBusters had to go to extra high-current headlights to make one go bang when used as a substitute automobile fuse) but I would make a loaded cartridge one exception to the "anything metallic". Not that anybody on CPF would do such a thing, but it's the first thought that popped into my mind.
