My E01 thats been on my keychain looks like its been through a warzone in its underwear sideways while getting its self mixed up with a mortor round, and landing in a ditch somewhere for 12 years... Anyone elses keyring material helped their e01 look like hell, all scratched and beat up?

Pictures?

What color was your light? This backs up my feeling that this would not be true HAIII...

Mine still hasn't arrived yet. Techwg, are you saying the type 3 anodizing has scratched easily and may be poor quality like a mag solataire?

Thanks

+1, pics please if possible, and which color? I haven't put an E01 on my key chain yet. Want to make sure I'm done photographing them before they start taking on wear. :)

I've been carrying my black E01 on my keychain off and on (mostly on) since I received it four weeks ago. There are already several spots where the anodizing has rubbed off, both on the knurling and other places. Doesn't look too bad yet, and it really doesn't bother me since it is just a tool to me (and a cheap one at that), but I've had ARC AAA's I've carried on the same keyring for a year or two that showed less wear than the Fenix after a month. If this is indeed type III anodizing, it is a much thinner coating than what ARC and some other companies use.

The Arc's may have the best HA I've ever seen. I wonder if the olive HA holds up better than the other HA colors. Wish Fenix would bring back natrual HA. Supposedly the HA on the E01's is pretty thick, but maybe it should be thicker. :) However, the fact that these $15 lights have HA to begin with, even if it's not the best HA, is pretty amazing.

I've had my E01 for about 3 weeks and it has held up quite well on my keys. The only obvious signs of wear are by the split ring. I also think the olive finish hides little scratches better than black.

It is pictured next to a Leatherman Squirt P4, anodized layer well and truly worn off.

I've had mine for a couple weeks now, and the only wear is caused by the split ring. It has worn the edges around the hold slightly.

I love seeing pictures of well used lights that are carried daily. Let's see some well used / carried E01s!

I had my blue one in my jeans pocket (the little pocket inside the big one) next to my lod and when i took my lod out i noticed blue powder on the knurling. When i examined my e01 the place with a little powder on it just wiped off and theres no visible damage so  I guess they don't like each other; have to tell em to behave.

I've carried my black E01 on my keys for 3 weeks. There's a zippo and loose change in that pocket also. I'd say its held up pretty well so far. Slight dulling of the body, but no scratches or bare spots. My girlfriends olive E01 has had the same treatment and looks fine as well.

I do also! I love when my equiptment wears, it shows that it is used. I'll try to report in in a few months when the E01 has really taken a beating.

Are you absolutely positive the anodize is worn through? It's pretty common for your keys and/or keyring to wear off and leave silvery or coppery looking marks on hard anodized lights. Think of the mark a piece of chalk would leave on a chalkboard. The key is the chalk. The hard anodized light is the board.

Usually, you can clean the flashlight up and make it look new again. It was pretty easy with the smooth finish on the L0 series lights. The deep knurling on the E01 is more likely to trap little bits of foreign metal that might be tough to get out.

Sigh, I want a purple E01. Fenix-store only have the black ones ready for shipping, the purple E01s have been on pre-order for months now. :(

Re: My e01 looks like Tish

Given enough time HA III will wear off of a keychain mounted flashlight.
I have an ARC AAA which looks like hell. It still operates just fine. Funny things that In this funny way a flashlight which has a lot of wear and tear on it has a lot of character. hell it has been carried for 1000's of hours.
If I were to sell this ARC AAA I would charge a large premium for it since you can't achieve this kind of look in a flash light without a great deal of work.
The same is true of my Fenix L0D. When I retire the ARC AAA I will replace it with the L0D I will then sell the ARC at a premium. You just can't buy a well worn flashlight all that easily these days since everybody is obsessed with lights which have a "perfect" finish.
Anyway you look at it If you make a choice to EDC a flashlight on your keychain you can count on it looking like hell sooner or later. The only way to avoid this is by EDCing a CHROME plated light or a BARE TITANIUM light both of which are much less likely to incur wear and tear which is visible.

Re: My e01 looks like Tish

Here in the USA some people have this thing about their couches where they use UGLY plastic slipcovers to protect their beautiful couch pillows and cushions. So instead of sitting on the fabric you sit on the plastic cover. This protects the couch pillows and saves them. I say saves them from what? When do you get to enjoy the feeling of the fabric under your but? When do you get to enjoy the look of the very nice fabric under the artificial plastic? The plastic slip covers are an ugly thing covering and protecting a beautiful thing. I get the same feeling about this camouflage ARC AAA the plastic is an UGLY (it is not even clear) thing obscuring a beautiful thing...

I am not sure I get this..

I've had pretty good luck with clear shrink tube on lights I don't want to chew up.

Interestingly enough there is room in the world for different opinions even if one doesn't understand or appreciate them, different strokes.

The clear cover serves a number of purposes related to how I use the light. One it does protect the finish on a light that gets used in less than ideal conditions. At the time I covered it it was the only Arc CS LED camo light that I had and I wanted to actually use it. It also keeps the items thrown in with the light from getting chewed up. Additionally it's much more "bite" friendly when there is a need to hold it in my mouth.
