Aparently im crazy for carrying these things becauise i dont have any job that requires these items. The reason i have them is because i never know when i need them. They always come in handy sometimes. and light is my main thing i will always have light. With the times we live in, you dont know if you will be on the train going through a tunnel and some clown blows up in another carrage and now your stuck in darkness presuming your alive.. Nobody knows however strange or weird it sounds, you really dont know when you will need high power light or low power light or a multi tool.....
Everything you see in this list has cost me about £220
btw i have a pouch that i carry this stuff in, apart from the "utillikey" that goes on my keys.. and the P2D ce goes in my trouser pocket.. all the other stuff is in my pouch.

Compared to many, you don't carry much.

I carry a sharp knife, a leatherman squirt el, a 12 hour light (arc aaa) and a 1 hour light (3 watt luxeon). For communications I have a cell phone and Palm Pilot with wifi/bluetooth. All of that's just in pockets.

I have similar worries. If I were trapped in a collapsed building or subway tunnel, I'd want SOME tools to help me survive.

Dude, this is a completly tame and normal setup for carrying everyday. Aside from the batteries and case (I only carry one spare on me at a time for my single cell EDC), everything else is par for the coarse.
Multitool, check! High powered light, check! Low level light, check! Phone, check! The models used will vary, but I'm willing to bet 99% of everyone on this board has the exact same formula for thier setup.
you really dont know when you will need high power light or low power light or a multi tool.....
The moment you don't have them, is when you'll need them!

I hate it when you dont have them and thats the only time that you need them........ last time I left the house without a light (my god......... the horror!!) was the one time I have been in a public blackout (best buy, heavy rain storm) since I started to carry lights back when I was like 10....... Murphys Law............

And man, have you seen some of the things we carry around (look for the EDC whats in your pockets thread
http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=18476)
myself included, some of us must gain 15 pounds when we pack all that stuff into our cargo pockets and maxpedition fatboys......... always great to be prepared

Its happened to me. The famous comment "Can i borrow your torch?" and then i got nothing if something cracks off and i need my light THEY have it ... thats my main motivation to have 2 lights. someone can borrow the p2d but the p3d stays in my pouch always never leaves me. I got enough batteries for several hours of high power light, or over week constant of low power ;)

Most people i know dont know the concept of EDC, and the most someone will carry is a cheapo keychain 2x CR2032 tiny light or a mag solitaire. Thats iff your lucky. They saw my surefire G2 i carried before fenix and they all said im an idiot. "You will never need a light like that why carry it?" but weeks later someone needs it for some reason :D i will always carry things that i find useful, or that may help me if something truely bad happens. My multi-tool has a tungston carbide cutter on it so i can cut metal if i need to + on my keys i got 2 spare carbide blades and my utilikey. "i removed the knife in the tool for legal reasons"

I went to the airport today to see a friend off and it was rather amusing. Time to empty my pockets!

Keychain
Fire~FlyIII
Leatherman Micra
Spy capsule with 4 Advils
two keys

Ripoffs CO-47FL holster
Leatherman Charge Ti
3 trays of charge bits
4" adjustable wrench
Peak Mediterranean 2AA stainless

Then I removed the Boker WharCom small knife from my belt loop. One guy asked why I carried so much stuff and why my Spec Ops wallet was so large. My buddy yelled out "He carries a large wallet for the duct tape, cable ties and flashdrive inside".

In my defense, the CO-47FL is only carried at work so I need the LM Micra and FF3 on my keychain as EDC. The duct tape and cable ties get used often so I have to reload every month.

I get a question "Do you have any cable ties"? I open my wallet and get them some which usually follows this question "WHY do you carry cable ties"? My latest answer is "Because duct tape can't fix everything" (I hold up the plastic card with duct tape wrapped around it)

I really dont think your crazy for carrying this! I always carry a Leatherman Charge, Spyderco Delica, Fenix L1D CE, L0D CE, one extra battery for each, one photon freedom, a spyderco ladybug, leatherman micra! Cellular, keys, first aid kit in my bag. a couple of cheap coin cell lights.

I leave some of the stuff at home when Im off to school, hard to expalin carrying the delica in school...when I got use to this stuff, Its really hard not to have it on you.

Your setup is not crazy at all! Compared to me, Im the one whos crazy! :)

wow :D im gladd i dont do planes... i would feel like a terrorist or something "empty your pockets onto the tray, any keys, loose change..." then i dump all that stuff i carry on there and watch the looks...

+ i got a timeX watch that has a compass on it so that might be useful if something truely aweful happened..

I usually carry my swiss pocket knife (spartan model) and I also try to carry my new fenix L1D CE with me. That's about everything, besides my phone of course. It's a different story when I go camping somewhere far away from civilization.

I flew last week. I'd read that small pocket knives were allowed again, so my leatherman squirt was thrown in the computer bag with everything else prior to reaching the metal detector. I later looked it up, and my 4 inch scissors with razor edges and sharp pointed tips are OK but the 1.5 inch folding blade on the leatherman was not.

Haven't these idiots ever watched ANY slasher movie from the 1950s?

BTW, the leatherman was left alone on the trip down and the trip back. It was not noticed or confiscated.

I hate getting to my destination without having a knife handy.

Daniel (rant off) :)

I'll be a dissenting opinion and say thats a bit much if you don't have a real need for it...

The thing is, try going out one day without all that stuff. It feels GOOD to not be weighed down so much. I started out carrying large knives and flashlights, extra batteries, and all that stuff. Now I'm down to miniaturizing as much as possible. I also try to choose tools that can do more than one task. Sure, I like carrying things in case I need them but I've found I can handle those incidents with much less equipment. I love gadgets and tools but now I keep most of them at home.

My carry:

Knives/tools - Spyderco Calypso Jr ZDP-189, Wenger Esquire (classic sized SAK)
Light sources - Sony Ericsson w810i (my brightest carry light!), Photon Freedom, Wenger Esquire (yes it has a built in white LED), green glowring (emergency backup light)

Try some smaller gear and ditch the man purse. ;)

I *always* have my Calypso Jr., a tiny SAK and one small AAA light (presently a Fenix LOD CE) on my person, even when I'm at home.

When I'm out of the house I also carry my Palm IIIxe (with four spare AAA Sanyo Eneloops), a HDS EDC with two spare CR123s, a small prying tool, a fully serrated Spyderco Native and my mobile phone(s).

I don't really think that's too much stuff, on the contrary. I travel a lot on public transport every day, and even though blackouts are very rare in my neck of the woods, I don't really want to be stuck on an underground train without at least two decent lights.

A bit pointless to remove the blade from the multi tool if you have a utilikey on you.

The utilikey is likley to get you in more bother with the law than the multitool as it would fall under the laws passed to completley ban the sale and carry of plastic / non-metal detectable &/or disguised knives in the UK.

Buy yourself a SAK or sub 3" folding ( non locking ) pocket knife and you can EDC everywhere (exept schools & court buildings) without a good reason; & they cut better and perform more functions.

It is your right under section 139 of the criminal justice act to EDC a 3" or less blade that folds readily, at all times, without the need to disengage a lock/ locking device.

actually your law bit at the end is correct, however the gerber pro scout deluxe has locking tools, including the knife, so its illegal to have a locking blade no matter how big or small it is. So to apease this law i removed the blade completely. My utilikey is all metal and has No locking mechanism and folds, so under the terms of the law its classed as under 3 inch folding pocket knife. the uitilikey has i think they call it a slip-joint or something meaning there is pressure holding it open but its not locked as a simple puch on the blade can move it. So this is the only legal and "socially acceptible" way to carry a knife that wont get me in trouble. I have had bigger knives before and i really dont need one that is 3 inch.

Locking blades are not illegal, you just have to have good reason to carry it. Just got to think in advance of a good one.
Raoul_Duke is correct about the utilikey, it's a knife disguised as a key and as such if prosecuted would have no defence agianst the charge. Stupid? In this case most probably, but the law stands.

I carry very similar.
Recently lost my utilikey, damn thing fell off my keychain.
At work, I carry:-
CRKT Sting & Inova X5 in belt pouch
Buck Strider 889 with 2 Tritium vials in handle scales
LM Micra
Mobile phone
Keys (with Inova Microlight, Blue glowring, flint rod & utilikey(until lost!)

My Maxped Last Resort holds:
Gerber Cliplock
ASP Baton
Cybalite Elite 3 C-Cell incandescent/LED light
Palm Safelight
1 litre Nalgene of water
Space blanket, poncho & large bin bag
Paracord
Light my fire plastic spork
SAK Handyman
Ducttape
NRA Otterbox containing "Usual Survival Kit Goodies"
Foam Sit mat
Dirty Stop Out kit (overnight toiletries, condoms etc)
Lunch
Work paperwork
Notebook & pens
Car stereo faceplate

THE Wallet holds the usual plus Swisscard, & Steel Mirror.

My comments are only my opinion matey, but If I get knicked I would rather expaling a swiss army knife, than a utillikey. Its your choice, but I was just pointing it out incase you didn't know that two seperate laws affect the utillikey so while you are clear on one, you fall foul of t'other.

Yep, the Law stands; I think the intention was there to stop people using as a disguised blade. In every day life, like this example, not a problem, but I can see the need for a ban in todays world. Trouble is if your determined, and have half a brain, you can put an edge on anything.

I have the same gerber, probably best that you removed it as the blade on it is not terribly good anyway, so I EDC an SMF, with the edge thinned out a little, when I have good reason, a UKPK when I dont, and a SAK if i'm realy being a good boy.

My achillies heel is that I use a swiss card as a wallet and clip my credit cards and notes to it with a folding bulldog clip. The swiss card has a 1" fixed blade in it, which is where you would think that common sense would prevail, as it is only a tiny letter opener type thing, but I read that an ex chief cunstable got arrested for having one in his pocket a while back.
Thats taking the law to far. Still I think if I ever had to explain the ( Strider) SMF the swiss card would not be the issue, even though I use the SMF in my work, and it shows a lot of use.

OH, BTW your EDC is just fine, certanly not over the top, you just need a better knife :D, I hear Spyderco are making a nice 2" slipjoint soon thats designed for the UK market.

One thing you have reminded me that I need a new LED for EDC as the hotwires I have just dont have the runtime.
